Business Development$400k/yrFull-time

Most families who enroll at Alpha do not discover us through advertising. They learn about us when a friend or colleague tells them at dinner: "This transformed my child." Your responsibility is to own and accelerate that word-of-mouth engine across an entire region—organizing the dinners, coordinating parent ambassadors, engaging the mayor's office, and connecting a CEO willing to offer a 14-year-old their first meaningful project.

About the role

In a typical week, you will be present in four different settings. You are responsible for designing and executing the region's event calendar, which includes gatherings ranging from 150-person open houses to intimate eight-seat dinners, running several each month. You will identify and activate current parents who are eager to speak with prospective families, then facilitate one-to-one matches. You cultivate relationships with municipal leaders and executives in business, converting those connections into event venues, support for new campus launches, and tangible opportunities for students. And you deliver the Alpha Networks promise: introductions, expert-led masterclasses, internships, alumni integration—all tracked and attributed family by family.

There is no complete playbook waiting for you. You create and refine the systems as you execute them, and the frameworks you develop are adopted by peers building similar engines in other markets. As your region scales, the performance bar rises rather than lowers: the number of doors opened per family must increase even as total enrollment grows. Success is measured by the proportion of growth driven by authentic personal endorsements, evaluated over multi-year trends rather than quarterly snapshots.

This is an on-site position based in one of the following regions: San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Greenwich, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dorado, Nashville, or Park City. The role includes regular evening and weekend commitments in settings with high-expectation parents, elected officials, and business founders, along with frequent local travel. You will become the most networked individual in your city, and you will deploy that capital on behalf of students.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and executing the region's event calendar: open community events, curated dinners organized by city and grade level, and family retreats—multiple per month, all within budget
  • Identifying and coordinating venues, hosts, and vendors, and personally facilitating each event
  • Enlisting current parents to serve as ambassadors, preparing them with authentic narratives, and pairing them with prospective families for tours and conversations
  • Establishing relationships with municipal officials and business leaders, and converting those relationships into event venues, campus expansion support, and real opportunities for students
  • Organizing enrolled families into parent circles and connecting students to mentorships, expert-led masterclasses, and real-world internships; ensuring graduating families are welcomed into the alumni network within 30 days
  • Recording every event, introduction, and first-contact source in the CRM so that "doors opened per family" reflects accurate, verifiable data
  • Drive people-first referrals to become the dominant source of enrollment growth in your region

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Purchasing growth through paid media, advertising budgets, or lead-generation metrics
  • Managing brand narrative or top-down marketing campaigns; that is owned by the Marketing team
  • Handling admissions processing, conducting tours, or managing enrollment documentation; those functions belong to Admissions and Family Success
  • Operating a campus on a daily basis or managing physical facilities
  • Measuring success by raw attendance numbers or headcount as if volume alone constituted impact
  • Waiting for a complete playbook, templates, or support staff before beginning execution

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building communities or relationship-driven programs in K-12 education, membership organizations, or comparable network businesses, where growth was generated through people—referrals, members, congregations, chapters, alumni, or client portfolios—with quantifiable results
  • Personal experience designing and executing 20+ events spanning the full spectrum, from intimate curated dinners to open events with 100+ attendees, including budget accountability
  • Proven track record of establishing and sustaining relationships with public officials or business executives that delivered concrete, identifiable outcomes
  • Consistent CRM discipline; systematic logging of relationships, attributions, and actions is an established practice
  • Current residence in, or willingness to relocate to, one of these regions: San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Greenwich (CT), Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dorado (PR), Nashville, or Park City (UT)
  • Work authorization in the US without need for visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Led regional growth, community development, or partnership functions for a network-based organization such as a school system, membership club, franchise, or civic or faith-based institution
  • Developed and monetized a high-trust relationship portfolio as a client-facing leader in wealth management, consulting, or business development
  • Advanced through roles in admissions, institutional advancement, community organizing, or hospitality, and consistently served as the face and host of the organization
  • Pre-existing connections with local government or the business community in your target city
  • Deep familiarity with how families evaluate and decide on high-stakes education options
