Serving a dedicated community of approximately 220 households, we offer contemporary Jewish learning, spiritual connection, a thriving Religious School, and a deep commitment to social action.
Position Overview
The Director of Synagogue Operations oversees the daily administrative, physical, and financial systems of our congregation. This pivotal role serves as the central operational hub for our clergy, lay leadership, families, and staff. The ideal candidate balances hands-on tech execution (specifically inside ShulCloud) with welcoming, professional communication to maintain a safe, highly functional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Member Management and Congregant Needs
- Database Management: Serve as the primary administrator for ShulCloud. Maintain membership rosters, billing accounts, life-cycle details, and yahrzeit lists.
- Office Leadership: Manage day-to-day office administrative tasks, providing an organized, responsive, and welcoming experience for congregants and visitors.
- Support the Senior Rabbi/staff in daily operations.
- Financial Coordination & AR/AP
- Accounts Receivable: Input and monitor membership renewals, Religious School tuition accounts, donations, and event fees directly inside ShulCloud.
- Accounts Payable: Use to review vendor invoices, track expenses against budget benchmarks, and log payroll information.
- Reporting: Generate standard membership and financial transaction reports for review by leadership and the Finance Committee.
- Vendor management including rentals.
- Facilities Management & Security
- Building Care: Monitor day-to-day maintenance, cleanliness, and facilities systems at our 12th Street building. Coordinate with the maintenance custodian and routine repair contractors.
- Vendor & Supply Management: Manage relationships with key IT, HVAC, utility, and equipment vendors. Track supply inventory for building and supply ritual needs.
- Security Protocols: Oversee building access systems, coordinate schedules for facilities and security personnel during services, holiday celebrations, and school hours.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3–5 years of operational management, administrative leadership, or nonprofit office operations experience. HR background a plus.
- Technology Savvy: Experience utilizing ShulCloud is preferred (or parallel experience with non-profit/synagogue CRM platforms like Salesforce). High proficiency in MS Office 365 and Google Workspace.
- Jewish Cultural Literacy: Solid familiarity with Jewish customs, holiday cycles, and the seasonal calendar flow of a Reform synagogue community – or interest in learning.
- Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional emotional intelligence, discretion, and patience. Comfort communicating thoughtfully with congregants across life’s varied milestones.
- Problem Solving: A self-starter attitude with the ability to wear multiple hats comfortably inside a collaborative, small-staff environment.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $70,000 – $90,000 per year (commensurate with relative non-profit experience).
