About the Organization
The Housing Authority of the City of Aurora (AHA) develops and promotes quality housing while supporting and encouraging economic opportunities leading to self-sufficiency and independence. AHA provides affordable or subsidized housing at 15 properties, administers approximately 1,700 vouchers, and offers programs with case management. The organization fosters a professional, productive, and friendly work environment where the open exchange of ideas and information is encouraged.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute communications strategies that align with AHA goals, including a comprehensive strategy aligned with organizational goals and community impact.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on messaging, branding, and public positioning.
- Ensure consistency of voice, tone, and brand across all communication channels.
- Develop and execute information technology (IT) strategies, serving as the internal point of contact for general IT needs and coordinating with external IT vendors.
- Manage media relations and act as the main spokesperson alongside the Executive Director and Senior Staff.
- Develop and manage the organization’s social media strategy across all platforms, overseeing content creation, publishing schedules, and performance analytics.
- Lead communications efforts during critical events or crises.
- Oversee messaging to employees, internal and external stakeholders, including the creation and dissemination of internal communications for staff alignment, engagement, and transparency.
- Manage all external communications, including public announcements, community updates, and stakeholder messaging.
- Manage digital content (websites, social media), branding, and marketing materials.
- Design and execute communications campaigns that promote organizational initiatives, programs, and services.
- Support community outreach efforts through strategic messaging and engagement plans.
- Monitor public perception and recommend strategies to enhance reputation and visibility.
- Supervise public relations staff, administration, and IT communications.
- Coordinate with external IT contractors to ensure timely resolution of technical issues and system maintenance.
- Support the integration of technology solutions that enhance communication, data sharing, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with leadership to identify and prioritize IT needs aligned with organizational goals.
- Manage department expenses.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Communications, Business, or a related field (preferred).
- At least 3 years of professional and/or technical related experience.
- At least 5 years of well-rounded experience in communications, including some time in a role with leadership responsibilities.
- Proficiency with personal computers, copiers, fax machines, and other general business equipment.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Demonstrated experience with digital communications, social media strategy, and campaign management.
- Experience managing external vendors and cross-functional partnerships.
- Familiarity with basic IT operations and experience coordinating with IT vendors (preferred).
- Accurate in communications, never misrepresenting facts or shading the truth.
- Honest in promising what can be delivered and dependable in following through on work commitments.
- Willing to share business information with those who have a need to know and ensuring effective communication.
- Strong strategic thinking and interpersonal skills.

$105,600+ based on education and experience.
