MEDIA RELATIONS

Serve as primary contact for all local, regional, national and international media, handling all daily inquiries.

Identify and manage all necessary media contacts throughout region. Serve as Office on-the-record media spokesperson.

Write press releases on significant investigations/cases and manage the approval process for releases with the District Attorney, First Assistant, Police Chiefs and detectives, as necessary.

  • Produce briefing materials and prepare/coach District Attorney and other relevant staff for press conferences, interviews, on-camera appearances, post-court media comments and other media events.
  • Manage all press conferences, media briefings and related events.
  • Produce all other press materials as needed.
  • Cook up and manage relationships with Montgomery County Detective Bureau and local police departments as necessary.
  • Maintain and update office database with current media contacts.
  • On-call nights and weekends for media inquiries.

COMMUNICATIONS

Manage and develop timely content for the monthly Law Enforcement Newsletter, which is distributed to all County Police Chiefs/Departments.

Responsible for obtaining/editing recent case law content from the Appellate Unit, working with ADAs to write stories related to successful investigations and prosecutions, and overseeing the design of the final product.

  • Write speeches/remarks for District Attorney for press conferences, DA engagements, community presentations, legislative briefings and similar.
  • Produce magazine-style District Attorney’s Office Annual Report including conceptualizing the AR, accumulating necessary information/facts/data, writing all content, sourcing and taking photos, and managing the design of the publication, as well as assisting with the print production to print obtain the final product.
  • Responsible for overseeing social media accounts of the District Attorney’s Office(Facebook, Twitter, etc.)to ensure relevant content.
  • Create materials for established community events including Drug Take Back program and gun disposal event, including producing printed posters.
  • Shoot photos for use in media and other materials.
  • Promote Office activities specifically designed for the public.
  • Aid in the development of public safety/crime prevention programs including PowerPoint presentations for use by detectives/ADAs at local schools, with community groups.
  • Create and distribute materials designed to generally promote Office performance and law enforcement interests such as Office brochures, promotional flyers, etc.
  • Manage District Attorney website content, coordinating with internal IT and County personnel as necessary.
  • Establish communications protocol for use during emergency/crisis events.
  • Liaison with relevant County and local government personnel, including Chiefs of Police, Public Information Officers and Communications Staff.
  • Provide counsel to County Police Chiefs as needed regarding media interactions and responses.
  • Liaison with the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association, participate in the quarterly Communications Roundtables and assist PDAA with communications issues/communications, as needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A seasoned communications professional with 8-10 years’ experience in media relations, journalism or communications.
  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Experienced as on-the-record spokesperson.
  • Possess a deep understanding of media needs and deadlines.
  • Experience in working with media, handling media briefings and press conferences.
  • Excellent speechwriting skills.
  • The ability to multi-task under pressure and thrive in fast-paced environment.
