Responsibilities
- Serve as MFC’s primary media strategist — proactively building relationships with journalists, editors, producers, and influencers across Minnesota and nationally
- Develop and execute a media outreach strategy that increases MFC’s earned coverage on our core issue areas
- Prepare and support the CEO and other spokespeople for interviews, press appearances, and public commentary
- Draft press releases, op-eds, statements, and talking points with speed and precision
- Maintain professionalism and Christ-likeness in all media interactions, including with hostile or adversarial outlets
- Lead, manage, and develop MFC’s communications team, setting clear expectations and fostering a culture of excellence and mission-alignment
- Collaborate with the Directors of legal, public policy, and church outreach efforts to serve and represent their communications needs effectively
- Assist targeted elections efforts as directed by the CEO
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in communications, public relations, advocacy communications, or a related field — with a demonstrated track record of results
- Proven experience managing and developing a team
- Strong existing relationships with Minnesota media, or a demonstrated ability to build them quickly
- Exceptional writing and editing skills across formats: press releases, op-eds, social media, scripts, donor communications, and more
- Skilled public speaker who can communicate MFC’s mission and vision compellingly to diverse audiences
- Proficiency with digital communications platforms, content management systems, social media tools, Google Analytics, and SEO/SEM basics
- Experience managing outside vendors and contractors
- Familiarity with graphic design, video production workflows, and digital content creation (hands-on production skills a plus, not required)
- Highly organized, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-moving environment
