About the role
We are looking for a leader who is both a thinker and a doer—someone comfortable shaping the team’s overall content strategy while also jumping in to edit photos, develop social media plans, or refine written content on deadline. You should be deeply curious about modern storytelling and audience engagement, eager to experiment, and skilled at building predictable editorial processes that enable fast, efficient communication.
The primary location for this position is Redmond, WA. Additionally, there are three other approved locations; candidates outside these four areas will be relocated to Redmond.
Responsibilities
- Lead a high-performing team of editorial and visual-storytelling professionals, providing strategic guidance and day-to-day mentorship.
- Provide editorial leadership for major flagship events and the company’s breaking-news blog.
- Oversee visual and amplification content creation and execution across the Microsoft Stories team, including hands-on support when needed.
- Drive strategic leadership for newsroom operations for Microsoft Stories.
- Embody and champion Microsoft’s culture and values.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field and 6+ years of experience in journalism, corporate storytelling, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- 1+ years of people-management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field and 8+ years of experience in journalism, corporate storytelling, or a related field or Bachelor’s Degree in the same fields and 12+ years of experience or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of people-management experience.
- Familiarity with the latest trends in technology, including AI and cloud computing.
- Experience translating technical topics into stories that are understandable and relatable to non-technical audiences.
- Experience creating or overseeing written feature stories, blog posts, still photography, videos, graphics, GIFs, and amplification plans.
- Proven ability to work successfully across functions and with external partners.
Pay
The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 – $251,900 per year. A different range applies to specific work locations: USD $165,600 – $272,300 per year in the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area. Certain roles may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation.
