Director of Cloud Engineering
Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing technology company in Boston, for a high-impact leadership role to shape the organization's cloud infrastructure strategy and lead engineering teams.
About the role
This position is ideal for someone with extensive experience building and scaling cloud platforms, ready to influence both technical direction and team development. You will collaborate closely with senior leadership to align infrastructure investment with business growth, balancing architecture reviews, roadmap planning, and coaching engineering managers. The ideal candidate has led leaders, not just individual contributors, and excels at combining technical judgment with organizational development.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of engineering managers responsible for cloud infrastructure and platform engineering
- Set the architectural direction and technical roadmap for the organization's cloud platforms
- Partner with product and business leadership to align infrastructure strategy with company growth plans
- Drive delivery predictability across multiple engineering teams and workstreams
- Establish standards for reliability, scalability, security, and cost efficiency across cloud environments
- Oversee capacity planning, budgeting, and vendor relationships for cloud infrastructure
- Build scalable processes for incident response, on call, and operational excellence
- Recruit, mentor, and grow engineering managers and senior technical staff as the organization scales
- Represent cloud engineering in executive planning and cross-functional strategy discussions
- Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and make build versus buy recommendations
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in cloud or infrastructure engineering, including direct people leadership
- Proven experience managing engineering managers or leading multiple engineering teams
- Deep hands-on background with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Strong track record of setting architecture direction for large-scale distributed systems
- Experience owning delivery timelines and coordinating across multiple engineering teams
- Demonstrated success building and scaling engineering organizations through growth
- Solid understanding of infrastructure security, compliance, and cost management practices
- Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to executive stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience

Pay
The salary range for this role is $190,000 - $250,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
