About the Role

The Director of Clinical Services is a registered professional nurse who ensures quality of patient care in the home. This role involves overall administration of the clinical departments, monitoring appropriate staffing and productivity, and coordinating care with the interdisciplinary team, patient/family, and referring agency.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and exemplify the company’s mission, vision, and values at all times.
  • Direct and coordinate clinical departments and branches, ensuring continuity, quality, and safety of services in compliance with state and federal regulations (Conditions of Participation).
  • Participate in activities relevant to professional services, including development of qualifications and assignment of agency personnel.
  • Supervise and provide direction to subordinates to ensure quality, compliance with the Plan of Care, and assessment and reassessment of patient needs.
  • Ensure execution of all job functions and job descriptions for service staff (direct and supervisory).
  • Execute a consistent companywide orientation and staff education program.
  • Assist with the interview process to select and hire quality home health personnel.
  • Identify areas of training needed to further develop staff members.
  • Participate with the Administrator and Chief Executive Officer in the formulation of a business plan, including strategic goals, resource allocation, and yearly budget.
  • Assure productivity requirements of full-time, part-time, and contract staff.
  • Assist the Administrator with planning activities to develop administrative and clinical policies and practices for assigned agencies.
  • Oversee all QAPI (Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement) and utilization review activities, including timely initiation of corrective action plans.
  • Promote compliance with fiscal intermediaries and third-party payors through education, coaching, and assistance.
  • Monitor systems, identify problem areas, and report to the Administrator verbally, electronically, and in writing.
  • Meet mandatory continuing education requirements of the agency/licensing board.
  • Promote and educate on infection control and universal precautions to prevent contamination and disease transmission.
  • Use effective interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate desirable outcomes.
  • Evaluate assigned agencies' programs, services, and field personnel.
  • Assist in evaluating community needs and planning programs and services to meet those needs.
  • Assist in marketing the organization and fostering community relations.
  • Participate in state and national organizations, meetings, seminars, and workshops related to health professions and healthcare services.
  • Proactively identify issues impacting patient care or office operations and involve operations/clinical management as needed.
  • Facilitate implementation of company initiatives, policy changes, and regulatory updates.
  • Act as a resource to provide support and expertise to the Home Health Clinical Leader.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in home health care operations with progressive responsibilities and supervisory experience.
  • Evidence of progressive leadership responsibilities, including fiscal management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of home health licensure, regulations, and Medicare Conditions of Participation (COP).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven decision-making skills.
  • Nursing skills as defined by generally accepted standards of practice.
  • If required to make visits, a Hepatitis profile may be necessary.
  • Must read, write, and comprehend English.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related field.
  • License and current registration as a Registered Nurse.

Environmental/Working Conditions

  • Prolonged sitting required; ability to operate office equipment, which may include heavy lifting, bending, and standing.
  • If visiting patients, prolonged standing and walking required, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move patients.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and courteously at all times.
  • Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and agency needs.
  • Performs duties in an office environment during agency operating hours.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel locally.
  • Some exposure to unpleasant weather.
  • Available for PRN emergency call at all times, either in person or via telecommunications.
  • If required to make patient visits, may work in patients' homes in various conditions; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and infectious diseases.
  • Reliable transportation and auto liability insurance.
  • Basic office equipment provided.
