Director of Clinical Research, Sarcoma

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and the University of Washington are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member for their Sarcoma Program. This position is dual-appointed with a primary faculty appointment in the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch and a secondary appointment in the UW Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology.

About the role

Reporting to the Clinical Research Division Senior Vice President (SVP) and Sarcoma Program Head, the Director of Clinical Research for Sarcoma will expand clinical research initiatives specifically related to Sarcoma. This position is designed for a physician who will provide strategic direction and business development to grow the Fred Hutch Sarcoma Clinical Research Program.

The successful candidate will lead Fred Hutch's Sarcoma Clinical Research operations and galvanize multi-disciplinary translational research. The role involves organizing, directing, and expanding the clinical research efforts of an established team of sarcoma clinicians while fostering an environment that facilitates clinical and translational research.

This position will have primary oversight of the sarcoma clinical research program, including strategic planning, implementation, and management of clinical research activities focused on sarcoma. The role will advance Fred Hutch’s mission of combating cancer through impactful clinical and translational research.

Responsibilities

• Develop new research collaborations with pharmaceutical companies and national trials.
• Build strong partnerships among researchers and staff.
• Integrate trials across and between different stakeholders.
• Lead and facilitate translational research collaborations in sarcoma across the Cancer Consortium.
• Educate and train researchers in sarcoma.
• Create a vision for the future of sarcoma treatment in the region in collaboration with other oncology leaders.
• Devote approximately 40% of time to sarcoma clinical care.
• Engage in teaching, research, and service, including coordination of informal teaching and formal didactics with affiliated training and fellowship programs.
• Provide mentorship to clinicians, researchers, and the broader medical community.

Requirements

• MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent).
• Board certification in medical oncology (or foreign equivalent).
• Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Washington.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching, clinical oversight of learners, and research mentorship.
• Record in clinical, translational, or laboratory-based research, with a primary focus on sarcomas and closely related conditions.

Qualifications

This position is at the assistant, associate, or full professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), commensurate with experience and qualifications. Faculty are appointed on the Clinician Scholar track with a 12-month service period (July 1–June 30) and are paid for 11 months, allowing one month of paid time off.

Pay

The annual base salary range for this position is:

• $330,000 to $350,000 for faculty hired at the assistant professor rank.
• $370,000 to $395,000 for faculty hired at the associate professor rank.
• $405,000 to $430,000 for faculty hired at the full professor rank.

Pay is based on degree, specialty, clinical practice, and experience. Faculty without credited time in rank will generally start at the entry rate for their relevant specialty and rank. This position is eligible for relocation assistance or a sign-on bonus, and may include an Administrative Supplement (ADS) in addition to base pay.
