Employment Type: Full Time | Hours per week: 35 | Working hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00 pm | Type of child care: Both preschool and school‑aged | Position start: As soon as possible | Position ends: September 30, 2026.
Responsibilities
- Create, plan, supervise, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate and age‑specific children’s programs that address the needs of the whole child – socially, physically, intellectually, creatively and emotionally – and respect community diversity.
- Provide vision and direction for the planning, coordination, integration, implementation and evaluation of school‑age, preschool and summer programs, including indoor/outdoor, active/quiet, individual and group activities.
- Interview, hire and evaluate staff and volunteers; develop and deliver workshops and training; provide orientation, motivation, mentoring and serve as a resource; hire extra support when funded or required; ensure staff schedules, substitute lists and Class 4 driving assignments are complete.
- Direct and evaluate children’s activities using modeling, observation, questioning, demonstration and reinforcement; ensure staff adhere to program goals, licensing regulations and centre policies.
- Liaise with staff daily and ensure the supervisory team conducts regular staff meetings.
- Collaborate with the Board’s Childcare Committee and staff to ensure programs operate effectively and efficiently.
- Liaise with Child Development Support staff, supported‑child‑development consultants and families of children who require extra support; attend meetings and work with professionals to meet children’s needs.
- Liaise with community organizations, health professionals, government agencies and other external partners as required.
- Promote licensed childcare, preschool and summer day‑camp programs; develop, plan and submit information for the seasonal Parks, Recreation and Culture guide; contribute to promotional materials and newsletters; assist with community events.
- Work with staff to develop and maintain program goals and objectives; facilitate inter‑staff communication and teamwork.
- Coordinate and/or assist with program‑related special events.
- Act as a resource for families.
- Ensure the physical and emotional program environment is safe for children.
- Coordinate, facilitate and keep appropriate records of meetings with families regarding specific children’s needs and develop individual care plans.
- Develop and maintain budgets.
- Develop, implement, evaluate and maintain all records, forms, policies and procedures; ensure compliance with government and licensing standards.
- Research and administer grants from various funding agencies.
- Supervise maintenance, repair and purchasing of equipment and supplies.
- Administer all aspects of transportation, including passenger safety.
- Document and report child abuse to supervisors and the Ministry.
- Complete accident report forms.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, which may vary according to facility.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 plus 100 hours of child‑care‑related courses (e.g., education, supported child development, human resources, child development and program planning).
- Minimum five years of experience working with children, including a supervisory role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Licensing requirements (to be submitted prior to start date):
- Standard or Emergency First Aid including CPR
- C19+ years of age
- Physician’s note
- Police Information Check
- Desirable qualifications:
- Diploma/certificate in School‑Age Care
- Bachelor of Education or related field
- Early Childhood Education Diploma/Certificate
- Class 4 driver’s licence
Pay
$36.14 – $39.66 per hour (based on a 35‑hour work week, primarily Monday to Friday).

Schedule
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
