Director of Business Technology & Data Services - Denver
About the role
The position is open to Colorado state residents only. The expected salary range for this role is $120,000 - $132,000 annually. New hires will be paid biweekly, with 26 pay periods in a year.
Responsibilities
- Drive the overarching IT strategy and direction for CDOT
- Select optimal IT solutions and manage the division's budget to procure them
- Collaborate with the Governor’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) and external contractors to implement and deploy new systems
- Ensure ongoing maintenance and support of existing systems and infrastructure
- Serve as CDOT’s primary liaison to OIT, fulfilling all associated partnership and communication duties
- Identify and negotiate technology procurements and contracts
- Evaluate and manage vendors and contractors on an ongoing basis
- Communicate the overall IT needs to OIT and contractors to ensure CDOT receives all necessary IT tools
- Provide expert-level guidance on technical integration, investment management, and program control across a technology portfolio
- Manage Line of Business assets, including inventory, lifecycle, upgrading, replacing, and reporting
- Ensure effective data analytics and reporting for various audiences
- Manage a budget and implement cost efficiencies
- Supervise technical and project management staff
- Provide expert-level guidance on technical integration, investment management, and program control across a technology portfolio
- Manage contracts and oversee contractor/vendor work
- Work under tight deadlines and be adaptable to changing assignments
- Take initiative to solve problems in an innovative manner
- Work with a variety of stakeholders with sensitivity to their needs, priorities, promises made and commitments
- Facilitate, present, and communicate effectively, both written and oral

- Be fluent in business intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau), cloud computing (Google Cloud, AWS, Azure), and API framework software (Mulesoft, Apigee)
- Be proficient in major operating systems (Windows, Unix, Linux, MacOS) and software and infrastructure deployment models (IaaS, PaaS, SaSS)
- Be fluent in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Gmail and Google Applications, SAP
Requirements
At least ten (10) years of experience with a primary focus on providing technology and data services for a business or government entity and/or IT project management, two (2) of which must have included experience with public or business administration, establishing goals and objectives, as well as developing and managing a budget to achieve program goals and objectives.
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to ten (10) years. Education from an accredited college or university with coursework in information technology, data science, business administration, public administration, or another field of study related to the duties of this position will be considered. Experience with a primary focus on providing technology and data services for a business or government entity and/or IT project management will be considered, including at least two (2) years of experience with public or business administration, establishing goals and objectives, as well as developing and managing a budget to achieve program goals and objectives.
