About the role

The Director of Behavioral Health Services oversees a comprehensive system of behavioral health programs and services, including mental health treatment, substance use disorder services, prevention and intervention programs, community outreach initiatives, and clinical operations. Reporting directly to the Board of Supervisors, the Director provides strategic leadership for the Countys behavioral health system while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and advancing the Countys commitment to serving individuals and families in need.

Responsibilities

  • Guides critical initiatives involving mental health, substance use treatment, prevention services, grant development, program expansion, workforce development, and interagency collaboration
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to County leadership and community stakeholders
  • Oversees departmental operations, budgeting, grant activities, and policy implementation
  • Supports the Countys long-term goals and addresses community behavioral health needs

Requirements

  • Experience leading behavioral health programs and services
  • Strategic thinking and ability to develop and implement plans
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage complex projects and meet deadlines
  • Comprehensive understanding of behavioral health laws and regulations

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., psychology, social work, public health)
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in behavioral health administration
  • Board certification in a relevant field (e.g., Certified Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor)
  • Experience with grant writing and securing funding
  • Proven track record of successful program development and implementation
