About the role
The Director of Advancement is responsible for securing major gifts of $25,000+ in support of the strategic needs of the University. This person will collaborate with numerous internal and external stakeholders, including the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences Dean, Director(s) and/or faculty member(s).
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a plan to connect donors to the University through the active use of the development process, including solicitation of major gifts.
- Responsible for securing major/planned gifts aimed at meeting the strategic goals of the University, its programs and disciplines, ultimately reaching a minimum of $1M in gift commitments annually.
- Responsible for securing a minimum of 120 visits annually with donors and prospects with a minimum of 40 visits to be discovery visits.
- Identify and establish personal contact with current and prospective major gift donors whose interest and financial capacity have the greatest likelihood of strategically meeting the University fundraising goals, in consultation with the Associate Vice President of Advancement.
- Provide leadership and administrative support for the CEBS Advisory Council, including agenda development, meeting coordination, member cultivation, and implementation of council initiatives that support institutional advancement.
- Collaborate with appropriate advancement and academic staff to develop prospect strategies and build relationships.
- Host or co-host receptions and other donor events locally and regionally.
- Assist with stewardship and special recognition events in conjunction with the Office of Advancement.
- Become familiar with and understand key initiatives of the University relating to faculty, students, instruction and research.
- Continually improve professional competency through training and participation in and/or leadership in professional, organizational and other not-for-profit organizations.
Requirements/Minimum Qualifications
- 2 – 5 years of face-to-face fundraising experience with a proven track record of securing gifts.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, including the demonstrated ability to communicate well in writing and speak before groups.
- Knowledge of finance, planned giving, alumni engagement, and advancement communications preferred.
- Ability to travel across the United States as needed.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Qualifications
- Experience in higher education fundraising is preferred.
- Experience working with a diverse population is preferred.
- Experience with major gift prospect research and cultivation is preferred.
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
