Marquette University’s Chemistry department is seeking a qualified applicant to direct its upper-division laboratory courses and coordinate professional development opportunities for students in the chemical sciences.
About the role
This is a non-tenure track, nine-month faculty position responsible for developing and implementing the laboratory curriculum of upper-level courses, supervising teaching assistants, and fostering professional growth for chemistry and biochemistry majors.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test, implement, and assess the laboratory curriculum for upper-division courses in collaboration with faculty teaching the lecture portions.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate teaching assistants assigned to upper-division labs.
- Teach both the lecture and laboratory portions of one upper-division course per year.
- Maintain instrumentation and chemical inventories.
- Facilitate undergraduate research opportunities, including summer undergraduate research fellowships.
- Cultivate internship opportunities for chemistry and biochemistry majors and serve as the primary contact for companies and organizations seeking to hire them.
- Organize yearly panels featuring professionals from industry, government, and the nonprofit sector.
- Arrange student visits to chemical companies in the Milwaukee area.
- Serve as advisor to CheMU, the undergraduate chemistry student organization.
- Assist and advise students interested in pursuing graduate and/or professional studies.
Requirements
- M.S. in Chemistry or a related field.
- Three years of teaching experience or other suitable professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field.
- Experience directing laboratory courses at colleges or universities.
