Overview

The Director of Accounting at Millan Enterprises is responsible for overseeing the financial health and reporting of the company across all business functions, including residential and commercial property management, storage, construction, Quality Flooring, Aviation, supporting divisions and other affiliated businesses. This leadership role includes managing a team of accounting professionals, ensuring accurate and timely reporting for ownership, preparing and organizing tax documentation, and supervising payroll administration. The Director will support department leaders by managing budgets, monitoring financial performance, and ensuring accountability to financial goals. A critical aspect of the role is working closely with property management teams to perform real estate accounting tasks, including monthly financials and CAM reconciliations, while maintaining alignment with organizational objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Oversight

    • Oversee daily operations of the accounting department and manage accounting staff
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for ownership
    • Cook with external accountants to prepare and submit annual tax filings
    • Manage intercompany transactions, allocations, and consolidated reporting across all entities and affiliated businesses
  • Team Leadership & Department Management

    • Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to the accounting team
    • Ensure accuracy and compliance in payroll processing and benefits administration
    • Partner with property management teams to provide financial analysis and insights
  • Real Estate & Property Accounting Support

    • Support real estate accounting functions, including rent rolls, accruals, and balance sheets
    • Oversee annual CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations and billing accuracy
  • Budgeting & Financial Planning

    • Lead the development and monitoring of departmental budgets across the organization
    • Support financial planning and forecasting efforts across all departments
  • Compliance & Risk Management

    • Maintain compliance with internal controls and financial policies
    • Aid in identifying financial risks and developing mitigation strategies
  • Other Duties

    • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned to support the overall success of the company

Education & Training

  • Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

  • Experience

    • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership or management role
    • Experience in real estate accounting, including CAM reconciliations and property budgets
    • Familiarity with tax reporting and compliance for multi-entity organizations
    • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, AppFolio, or similar platforms)
    • Understanding of payroll systems and benefits administration

Working Environment

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $90,000 – $120,000 (based on qualifications)
