About the role

The Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting (“Director”) at HomeXpress Mortgage (“Company”) is a senior-level management position responsible for the Company’s accounting and tax department functions, GAAP and management reporting, external audit oversight, tax compliance and planning, and the implementation of an effective internal control framework. This role also assists with financial forecasting and budgeting.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the Company’s accounting operations and personnel.
  • Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure accounting operations function at a high standard with transparent financial results.
  • Maintain an effective accounting framework for timely and accurate transaction posting, reconciliation, and documentation.
  • Structure, implement, and maintain an efficient internal control framework, including testing and remediation of deficiencies.
  • Oversee accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting, including analysis of key performance indicators.
  • Design and develop accounting system improvements, including system integrations to enhance workflow.
  • Collaborate with other departments to achieve the Company’s financial goals and objectives.
  • Monitor the Company’s financial performance proactively.
  • Work with external audit and tax personnel to ensure timely completion of GAAP audits, tax planning, and compliance.
  • Lead the development and implementation of new procedures to enhance accounting and tax workflows.
  • Develop meaningful data analytics and accounting metrics for management assessment.
  • Assist and/or lead financial budgeting and planning processes, including clear communication to leadership.
  • Monitor and implement new GAAP standards and provide assessments to management.
  • Identify and analyze potential risks and opportunities in the Company’s accounting operations.
  • Mentor, develop, and manage accounting operations staff.

Requirements

  • Seven or more years of mortgage banking (or similar) industry experience.
  • Experience and working knowledge of GAAP, mortgage banking accounting, fair value, and derivatives.
  • CPA license required.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused.
  • Strong communication abilities and people-oriented with a service excellence mindset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including PowerPoint) and various accounting applications/platforms.
  • Organized with the ability to manage multiple timelines and schedules effectively.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related business degree with accounting requirements.

Pay

$130,000 – $175,000 per year

Physical Requirements

This is an office-based position requiring the use of a computer and general office equipment. The role involves moving freely within the department and other office locations.
