About the role
The Director of Academic Success provides strategic leadership and support at the Oakland University and William Beaumont University Hospital campuses for academic support/learning assistance, career advising, and program development.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Academic Success Team
- Serve as a generalist career advisor for M1-M4 students
- Manage accommodation implementation for disability support
- Supervise the monitoring of all student progress
- Prioritize assignments and strategies to achieve the mission of the School of Medicine
Requirements
- Master’s degree in counseling, education, or another relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- A minimum of four (4) years counseling/advising experience
- Ability to assist students with study skills and implement educational programs for students
- Ability to effectively use counseling skills in a variety of situations
- Ability to meet strict deadlines and work independently
- Excellent communication skills and ability to compose, proofread, and edit various communications and prepare and give presentations to students and faculty
- Skilled at organization and presentation of data using critical thinking skills to analyze and make recommendations based on data
- Ability to maintain the strictest standards regarding confidentiality of all student information
- Experience in Student Affairs management of student issues
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in counseling, education, or another relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- A minimum of four (4) years counseling/advising experience
- Experience working with medical students
- Experience providing career advising and administering various career interest inventories/assessments
- Familiarity with the AAMC Careers in Medicine framework for student advising
- Experience with supervision of professional staff/full-time employees
