About the Role
Directs and coordinates functions and activities of the nursing department and assigned clinical operation departments at Kindred Hospital Central Tampa, a 102-bed long-term acute care hospital with five negative pressure rooms. Consults with and advises Administration on the general operation of the hospital, developing goals, objectives, standards of performance, policies, and procedures for nursing and clinical departments. Ensures compliance with legal, organizational, and medical staff standards while establishing, directing, and implementing the Standards of Nursing Practice and clinical operations.
Responsibilities
- Manages multiple subordinate department managers supervising staff in departments such as Nursing, Quality Management, Social Services, Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy, Radiology, and Case Management.
- Evaluates overall operations regularly and systematically, reporting results to the Administrator.
- Maintains a sound corporate organization plan, ensuring adequate management development and succession.
- Develops and installs procedures and controls to promote communication and adequate information flow.
- Establishes operating policies consistent with the Administrator’s broad policies and ensures their execution.
- Defines and ensures understanding of responsibilities, authorities, and accountability for all direct subordinates.
- Fosters an environment of collaboration and cooperation among hospital departments.
- May assume the administrative responsibilities of the Administrator in their absence.
- Promotes staff development by establishing a professional environment supporting accountability and autonomy.
- Leads nurse recruitment and retention efforts through creative initiatives.
- Directs the interview and selection process for new nursing staff.
- Provides leadership in human resource development and management, including guidance and counsel to nursing leadership and staff.
- Maintains confidentiality of employee information and ensures employee rights are protected.
- Provides adequate communication mechanisms within all departments and disciplines.
- Contributes to and/or leads initiatives outlined in the Strategic Quality Plan.
- Serves on the Hospital Quality Council and supports continuous quality initiatives.
- Represents nursing services on various corporate, hospital, and medical staff committees/meetings.
- Verifies licensure, certification, qualifications, experience, and competency of nursing department members, evaluating each on a timely basis.
- Develops a strong working knowledge of the electronic medical record.
- Reviews and monitors work schedules and patient classification daily to assess staffing needs and develop appropriate staffing plans.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for maintaining patient safety and compliance with state/governmental regulations.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements and maintains survey readiness.
- Participates in and coordinates survey preparation and develops corrective action plans as needed.
- Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and applicable professional standards.
- Develops a positive image and relationship in the community, serving as a visible advocate for the hospital.
- Collaborates with medical staff and other departments in planning and organizing clinical services and programs.
- Collaborates with hospital leadership in preparing budgets, developing capital expenditure plans, and ensuring fiscal resource allocation.
- Responds to budget variances by determining justifications and developing corrective measures.
- Participates in developing the hospital’s mission, strategic plans, budgets, and operational policies.
- Develops, implements, and improves the care delivery model by assessing quality and efficiency.
- Serves as an active member of the senior leadership team, interacting with medical executive staff and governing board.
- Establishes credibility with patients, physicians, staff, and colleagues through excellent patient care and clinical competencies.
- Acts as an advocate for patients and families.
- Networks with state, regional, and national peers to share ideas and conduct mutual problem-solving.
- Seeks experiences to advance skills and knowledge through education, certification, and professional organization participation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, finance, or clinical specialty. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute.
- Registered Nurse licensure in the state.
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in healthcare administration/management.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in hospital management in an inpatient, acute care environment. Graduate-level education may substitute for experience on a year-to-year basis.

- Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
