About the role

The Director Materials Manager provides materials management oversight and support to divisional manufacturing facilities, representing manufacturing interests while collaborating with Product Management and Logistics in the supply phase of the SIOP process. This role ensures optimal use of Southwire’s manufacturing assets, production plan attainment, and on-time delivery, with a focus on intercompany support of bare wire and other WIP components. The Director manages a small direct staff and has dotted-line responsibility for Materials Managers at supported plants, driving data-driven initiatives and improved production planning tools.

Responsibilities

  • Leads materials management support functions for Industrial/OEM plants to achieve plant OTIF, WIP reduction, and other metrics.
  • Executes strategy and development of intercompany WIP flow, with a specific focus on Cu/Al strand and improved length planning.
  • Conducts OTIF Pareto analysis and translates data into actionable plans to improve customer service.
  • Serves as the point of contact for priority and project order scheduling for Industrial and OEM.
  • Defines and implements standard work instructions and training plans for all MTO Materials Management roles.
  • Utilizes tools like IBP to visualize and manage loadings by machine/work center and drive lead times.
  • Manages a small Industrial Engineering staff that may grow over time.
  • Plans and coordinates AL Rod and supports CU Rod prioritization.
  • Supports SIOP and AOP planning.
  • Manages key improvement projects and tasks assigned by Operations VPs and Sr. VPs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or Logistics.
  • 10+ years of experience in materials planning and management.
  • Experience with SAP.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree.
  • CPIM or CSCP certifications.
  • Experience with Advaris.
  • Wire and cable manufacturing experience.

Schedule

  • Hybrid role requiring 2-3 days onsite per week.
  • Up to 25% domestic travel.

Reports to: VP of Supply Chain. Role will manage 2-5 direct reports and support multiple locations.
