About the Role

At Dechra, U.S. Medical Affairs is a strategic partner to the business and a critical driver of medical leadership, innovation, and customer engagement. We are seeking a highly collaborative and influential veterinarian to serve as Medical Lead for the Internal Medicine category, helping shape the future of our portfolio while advancing patient care and supporting veterinary healthcare teams.

The Director, Medical Affairs, Internal Medicine is a senior individual contributor role with significant strategic influence and visibility across the organization. This position leads through expertise, partnership, and influence, serving as the medical leader for a key therapeutic category and a trusted advisor to cross-functional stakeholders. This role sits at the intersection of science, strategy, education, and commercial execution.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Medical Affairs, this individual will serve as the medical leader for the Internal Medicine portfolio, guiding product strategy, medical education, data generation, customer engagement, and launch excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Medical Strategy
    • Serve as the medical lead for Dechra's Internal Medicine portfolio.
    • Partner with Marketing to develop and execute integrated brand and medical strategies.
    • Translate scientific insights, customer feedback, and market trends into actionable strategies that support portfolio growth.
    • Ensure medical strategy is aligned with business objectives while maintaining scientific integrity and customer focus.
    • Contribute to launch planning and execution for new and future products.
  • Be a Scientific Leader and Trusted Advisor
    • Act as a recognized subject matter expert for assigned therapeutic areas and products.
    • Partner with Marketing and Regulatory teams to review promotional and educational materials.
    • Ensure all medical content is scientifically sound, balanced, and customer-focused.
    • Provide medical expertise and strategic guidance to internal stakeholders across the organization.
    • Represent Dechra at key industry meetings, conferences, and professional events.
  • Build Relationships with Industry Experts
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Key Opinion Leaders, specialists, researchers, and industry influencers.
    • Gather market insights that inform medical, educational, and commercial strategies.
    • Lead or support advisory boards, speaker programs, peer-to-peer education initiatives, and expert engagement activities.
    • Identify and cultivate emerging experts and future advocates within the profession.
  • Advance Medical Education and Evidence Generation
    • Lead the development of educational programs that improve veterinary understanding and product adoption.
    • Support scientific communication activities, including presentations, publications, and educational content.
    • Partner with Product Development and Regulatory Affairs to identify evidence gaps and support research priorities.
    • Contribute to study planning and evidence generation initiatives that strengthen the value of the portfolio.
    • Monitor ongoing studies and ensure progress toward key milestones.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work effectively within a highly matrixed organization, bringing together diverse perspectives to achieve shared goals.
    • Collaborate with Marketing, Veterinary Professional Services, Medical Consultation & Product Support, Regulatory Affairs, Product Development, and Global colleagues.
    • Influence decision-making by providing scientific and customer-focused perspectives.
    • Actively contribute to portfolio and therapeutic area planning discussions and participate on therapeutic focus/product portfolio groups.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent.
  • At least 7 years of combined clinical and industry experience.
  • Active veterinary license in good standing.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong scientific communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to convert complex scientific data into clear, compelling, and customer-relevant messages.
  • Embraces change and views challenges as business opportunities.
