Director Investment Operations

This role is based in New York and follows a hybrid schedule, requiring at least three days a week in the office.

About the role

Lead US investment operations for Mercer’s Direct Investment Unit (DIU), an investment management team providing multi-asset solutions to clients. This role involves leading an internal team, overseeing external vendors, and collaborating with international DIU colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Deliver middle and back-office functions and minimize operational risk.
• Support the launch of new client mandates and trading instruments aligned with business needs.
• Oversee the key outsourced service provider, Arcesium, as well as an internal team.
• Support post-trade workflows to ensure trades are booked accurately downstream.
• Represent US DIU investment operations on internal project and governance initiatives.
• Manage custodians, pooled fund providers, and other strategic outsourced relationships.

Requirements

• At least 10 years’ experience in asset management, culminating in a senior operations role.
• Proven success leading a complex investment operations organization with strong client delivery, control environment development, and change leadership.
• Deep experience in operational workflows with derivatives (OTC and exchange traded), funds, and cash securities.
• History of managing teams and leading operational interactions with other teams.
• Record of implementing changes in systems, infrastructure, and personnel.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and operational reporting requirements.
• Ability to develop pragmatic solutions to operational challenges.
• Skill in applying technology for standardization and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Previous use of Charles River and experience with its implementation.
• Advanced education (e.g., MBA) or industry-relevant certifications (e.g., CFA).
• A broad awareness of the technological underpinnings of operational systems.

Pay

The applicable base salary range for this role is $122,500 to $245,000, with eligibility for performance-based incentives. The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, and education.
