About the role
The Director of International Transportation and Logistics Operations is a key member of the International Transportation leadership team responsible for managing the import supply chain, meeting service and cost objectives, development of team members and executing strategies as defined by SC Leadership.
Responsibilities
- Manage origin/destination operations, managing 3rd party Transportation and Logistics providers, procurement/contracting of services, ensuring contractual obligations are met, negotiating non-contracted services, and performance/financial forecasting, reporting and analysis.
- Interface with all key functional business areas including merchants, finance, procurement, PIC, distribution, and transportation to develop and manage programs to support business objectives.
- Support the VP of International Transportation and Logistics and work in tandem with the Director of Imports to ensure regulatory and operational compliance.
- Create timely, cost-effective import supply chains by working closely with merchandise buyers, procurement, MIOA, broker, container management, 3rd party and non-merchandise purchasing agents.
- Handle technical and operational details of international transportation, multiple modes, documentation, and varying customs regulations, develop distribution strategies, and build relationships with Transportation and Logistics intermediaries.
- Coordinate and direct daily logistic strategies with internal staff and external service companies.
- Support the VP in developing and managing RFP events for Ocean, Drayage and 3PL services.
- Manage all drayage/inland transportation processes (Destination port to DC), including standing up WC ops team.
- Develop/provide reporting, KPIs, scorecards, invoice payment/reconciliation, contract management, and visibility to the entire import and POE processes.
- Work with finance to ensure financial forecasting and accrual deadlines are accurately met.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain/Transportation and Logistics
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in import transportation/supply chain
- Minimum 3 years leading and managing a successful transportation function
- Deep Transportation and Logistics/transportation experience - retail experience a plus
- Proven track record with progression of leadership positions in supply chain, Transportation and Logistics or transportation, specifically developing and managing successful import programs
- Experience in running and negotiating a competitive procurement activity for ocean, port drayage, and 3PL activities
- Proven track record and success driving transportation productivity and customer service
- Experience establishing key performance indicator metrics to benchmark/track performance
- Skills in financial reporting, forecasting, and analytics
- Proficient with Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Import/Tracking Systems
- Demonstrated ability to inspire confidence, communicate, and operate effectively with internal (cross functionally) as well as external partners and suppliers
- Strong track record of success in people leadership including attracting, developing, and retaining industry leading talent
