Human ResourcesFull-time

At DoubleTree by Hilton Portland, we believe exceptional guest experiences begin with exceptional team member experiences. We are seeking a dynamic, visible, and people-focused Director of Human Resources to join our Executive Leadership Team. This role is an opportunity to build culture, develop leaders, attract great talent, strengthen engagement, and create a workplace where people want to stay, grow, and succeed.

The Director of Human Resources will serve as a strategic partner to the General Manager and hotel leadership team while remaining a trusted and accessible resource for team members throughout the hotel.

About the Role

You will lead the Human Resources function for a dynamic full-service hotel, overseeing talent acquisition, team member relations, leadership development, training, performance management, compensation and benefits, compliance, recognition, workplace safety, and employee engagement. You will balance the needs of our people with the operational goals of the hotel while championing a culture built around hospitality, accountability, inclusion, recognition, and respect.

Responsibilities

Culture & Team Member Experience

  • Champion a positive, engaging, and inclusive workplace where team members feel heard, respected, recognized, and supported.
  • Build trusted relationships across the hotel while maintaining a visible and approachable HR presence.
  • Lead team member recognition, celebrations, rallies, appreciation events, and other initiatives that strengthen culture and engagement.
  • Actively listen to team member feedback and identify opportunities to improve communication, morale, and retention.

Talent & Development

  • Develop recruiting strategies that attract talented individuals who reflect the service standards and culture of the hotel.
  • Partner with department leaders on staffing, interviewing, selection, onboarding, and retention.
  • Coach and develop managers and supervisors in leadership, communication, accountability, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Support training, career development, succession planning, and internal advancement opportunities throughout the hotel.

Team Member Relations & Compliance

  • Serve as a trusted resource for team members and leaders regarding workplace concerns, policies, performance, and employment practices.
  • Conduct timely and objective workplace investigations and coach leaders through corrective action, conflict resolution, and difficult conversations.
  • Ensure policies and employment practices are administered fairly, consistently, and respectfully.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, Oregon, and local employment laws and oversee required HR documentation, reporting, personnel records, workplace safety, workers’ compensation, leaves, and accommodations.

Strategic HR Leadership

  • Serve as a strategic business partner to the General Manager and Executive Leadership Team.
  • Use turnover trends, staffing information, engagement feedback, and workforce data to identify opportunities and recommend solutions.
  • Participate actively in hotel leadership meetings, departmental meetings, team events, and operational activities.
  • Connect our people strategy with the hotel’s operational, financial, service, and guest satisfaction objectives.

What Success Looks Like

  • Our team members feel heard, respected, recognized, and supported.
  • Our leaders have the tools and confidence to lead effectively.
  • We attract great people and give them reasons to stay.
  • Our strongest team members see opportunities to grow their careers.
  • Our workplace is fair, compliant, engaging, and fun.
  • We create a culture our team members are proud to be part of.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Organizational Leadership, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of progressive Human Resources management experience.
  • Full-service hotel or hospitality Human Resources leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and Oregon employment laws and HR practices.
  • Experience with employee relations, investigations, recruiting, performance management, training, and leadership development.
  • Strong communication, coaching, conflict resolution, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience with HRIS, applicant tracking, learning management, and other HR technology preferred.
  • SHRM CP, SHRM SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification is a plus.

About You

You believe Human Resources should be visible, approachable, and connected to the operation. You understand that culture is not created by posters or policies—it is created through thousands of everyday interactions between leaders and their teams. You can coach an executive, support a new team member, navigate a difficult employee relations situation, celebrate a success, analyze turnover, and walk the hotel connecting with team members, sometimes all in the same day. You understand hospitality, people, and that the two are inseparable.
