We are seeking an HR Specialist to manage and enhance our organization’s HR functions, ensuring a positive, productive, and compliant work environment. This role involves overseeing recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and legal compliance. The HR Specialist will collaborate with leadership to align HR practices with our mission and values, fostering a supportive workplace culture in a non-profit setting.

This is a self-supporting position; staff members will need to raise their own support from friends, family, churches, and communities to work with MFI.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and onboarding.
  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave policies.
  • Handle employee relations issues, providing guidance and support to both employees and management.
  • Oversee performance management processes, including goal setting, evaluations, and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations, maintaining accurate records and staying updated on legal requirements.
  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that align with the organization’s mission and values.
  • Coordinate training and development programs to enhance staff skills and organizational effectiveness.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the organization.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR documentation.
  • Assist in the development and execution of strategies to improve employee engagement and retention.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in human resources, preferably within a non-profit organization.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, labor laws, and employee relations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in HR software and systems.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
