About the role

The Director utilizes a systems approach in planning, creating strategies, and developing programs that address Health Information Management functions, including the legal medical record, coding, scan centers, release of information, transcription, chart completion, physician notification and suspension, quality, and records custodian for court appearances. The Director works collaboratively with key individuals: physicians, patients, clinical staff, directors, administrators, and the Revenue Cycle Team.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, coordinates and monitors the hospital's Health Information Management functions to assure current best practice standards and compliance with Federal, State and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Works collaboratively with key individuals: physicians, patients, clinical staff, directors, administrators, and the Revenue Cycle Team.
  • Establishes teamwork with the Director of Risk Management / Privacy Officer to drive adherence to appropriate medical record access, system access audits, and response to chart reviews by regulatory agencies.
  • Manages, organizes, and co-facilitates the Medical Records Committee with the physician chairperson per the Conditions of Participation.
  • Manages the Medical Records Department, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a complex electronic medical record (EMR) environment in a large, acute care hospital setting.
  • A Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Prefer Certification in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) and/or background in informatics.
  • Prefer project management or enterprise system implementation experience.
  • Prefer ability to provide leadership and mentoring by guiding individuals and groups towards desired outcomes, setting high performance standards and delivering industry-leading quality services.
  • Prefer ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to staff, physicians, Managers, Directors, Administration and the Board.
  • Prefer demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with physicians and create a collaborative environment, as well as, deliver high quality service to all internal and external customers.
  • Prefer demonstrated organizational and time management skills to maximize productivity and outcomes.
  • Prefer demonstrated written and oral communication skills, to include composing correspondence and reports.
  • Prefer demonstrated proficiency in Windows-based software, with the ability to instruct staff on systems, and develop complex reports.
  • Prefer ability to develop, read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Prefer ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Prefer management experience at a large community hospital system with multiple locations.

Negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
