Director, Global Tax
About the Role
Krispy Kreme's Director, Global Tax leads the Company's global tax function and is responsible for overseeing income tax accounting, compliance, planning, transfer pricing, indirect tax matters, and tax-related risk management. This role partners closely with the Chief Accounting Officer, external service providers, external auditors, Legal, Treasury, FP&A, and business leaders to help ensure the Company's tax matters are managed effectively, accurately, and in compliance with applicable laws and reporting requirements. Given the Company's tax operating model, this role also has primary responsibility for overseeing the external accounting firm that performs most tax activities under a managed services arrangement and for ensuring high-quality execution, timely deliverables, and effective coordination with internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Company's global tax function, including direct oversight of tax accounting, compliance, planning, transfer pricing, and other tax-related matters
- Develop and execute tax strategies aligned with the Company's business objectives, operating structure, and risk tolerance
- Advise senior leadership on the tax impact of business initiatives, legal entity changes, financing matters, restructuring activities, and other strategic transactions
- Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess the impact on the Company
- Drive continuous improvement in the Company's tax processes, documentation, governance, and operating model
- Serve as the primary internal relationship owner for the external accounting firm engaged in the Company's tax managed services model
- Oversee outsourced tax compliance and tax accounting activities to ensure work is timely, accurate, complete, and aligned with Company expectations
- Review key deliverables prepared by the external service provider, including income tax provisions, tax returns, estimated tax calculations, extension filings, and supporting workpapers
- Establish priorities, timelines, service expectations, and accountability for outsourced tax activities
- Coordinate effectively between the external provider and internal stakeholders to facilitate information flow, issue resolution, and process execution
- Oversee the preparation and review of the Company's quarterly and annual income tax provision under U.S. GAAP
- Review and support tax-related disclosures included in Forms 10-K, 10-Q, earnings materials, and other public-company reporting deliverables
- Evaluate and document uncertain tax positions, valuation allowances, return-to-provision analyses, and other significant tax accounting judgments
- Partner with the accounting and external reporting teams to ensure timely and accurate reporting of tax balances, effective tax rate drivers, and discrete items
- Support accounting for complex transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, legal entity restructurings, financing matters, and cross-border initiatives
- Oversee the Company's global income tax compliance process, including federal, state, local, and international filings prepared through the managed services model
- Monitor tax exposures, audit activity, notices, and controversy matters; coordinate responses and remediation plans as appropriate
- Oversee non-income tax matters, including indirect tax, franchise tax, property tax, and other business tax obligations, as applicable
- Maintain and enhance tax governance processes to support compliance, visibility, and risk mitigation
- Ensure appropriate retention of tax documentation and support for key tax positions
- Partner with FP&A, Treasury, Legal, HR, and other functions to support forecasting, cash tax planning, legal entity management, and business initiatives
- Support modeling of the tax impact of forecasts, restructuring activities, financing transactions, and strategic projects
- Identify tax planning opportunities while maintaining alignment with the Company's control environment and risk appetite
- Advise cross-functional teams on tax considerations related to contracts, intercompany arrangements, supply chain matters, and operational changes
- Oversee and execute controls over income tax accounting and tax-related processes in accordance with SOX requirements
- Maintain process documentation, control narratives, and supporting evidence for key tax controls
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors on tax-related control testing and substantive procedures
- Identify control gaps or process inefficiencies and implement corrective actions as needed
- Lead, develop, and support one direct report
- Provide clear direction, prioritization, coaching, and performance feedback
- Foster strong collaboration across the finance organization and with external service providers
- Promote accountability, responsiveness, and continuous development within the tax function
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in both public and publicly traded company environments; experience overseeing outsourced or managed services tax models preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA (or progressing towards a CPA) with public accounting and publicly traded company experience
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP income tax accounting and corporate tax compliance
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to review complex work prepared by external advisors and provide clear direction and feedback
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work cross-functionally across finance, legal, treasury, and operations
- Demonstrated ability to identify process improvement opportunities and strengthen controls
- Experience with public company tax reporting and SEC disclosure requirements
- Experience managing tax audits, controversy matters, and cross-border issues
- Experience with international tax matters, transfer pricing, and indirect tax preferred
