A Brief Summary Of This Position
The Director of Global Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP/S&OP) leads the end-to-end planning and supply alignment process across Valmont’s Agriculture division. This role is accountable for translating demand, supply, inventory, capacity, and financial inputs into a single, aligned operating plan that enables scalable growth, strong customer service, and optimized financial performance.
Essential Functions
- Lead the end-to-end SIOP/IBP process, delivering a single, consensus operating plan aligned across demand, supply, inventory, and financial objectives
- Facilitate structured monthly SIOP cycles and executive reviews, highlighting risks, opportunities, and key trade-off decisions
- Ensure alignment between operational plans and financial forecasts in partnership with Finance/FP&A
- Establish governance, cadence, and cross-functional engagement models to ensure planning discipline and accountability
- Advance SIOP maturity through standardization, capability building, and adoption of best practices
- Demand, Supply & Capacity Planning
- Oversee development of short-, mid-, and long-range demand and supply plans across global and regional operations
- Align commercial forecasts with production capabilities and inventory strategies
- Lead scenario planning, capacity modeling, and resource planning to support operational and capital investment decisions
- Drive schedule attainment and site-level execution performance, ensuring alignment to the agreed operating plan
- Balance customer service, operational efficiency, and resource utilization across the network
- Inventories & Working Capital Optimization
- Own inventory strategy, policies, and performance targets aligned with service levels and financial objectives
- Drive improvements in inventory turns, days on hand (DOH), and obsolescence reduction
- Ensure strong inventory visibility through monthly reporting, gap analysis, and performance reviews
- Align inventory plans with production and supplier capabilities to optimize working capital
- Supply Strategy & Supplier Alignment
- Lead supply strategy to ensure supplier capacity, capability, and performance align with SIOP plans
- Partner with Global Commodity Management (GCM) and Procurement to support sourcing decisions, material availability, and risk mitigation
- Support cost competitiveness through data-driven insights, supplier collaboration, and alignment to demand plans
- Drive supplier segmentation, dual sourcing, and risk management strategies to enhance resilience
- Performance Management & KPIs
- Define and manage key supply chain and SIOP performance metrics, including:
- Forecast accuracy and demand bias
- On-time delivery / OTIF
- Inventory turns and working capital
- Schedule attainment and capacity utilization
- Supplier performance
- Deliver actionable insights to leadership, including variance analysis and corrective actions
- Data, Analytics & Systems
- Lead development and enhancement of SIOP analytics, dashboards, and reporting capabilities
- Ensure data integrity across planning systems and functions
- Partner with IT to improve ERP and planning tools (IFS, QAD, SAP or similar) and advance digital planning capabilities, including automation and advanced analytics
- Leadership & Cross-Functional Influence
- Lead, develop, and mentor a team of planners, analysts, and supply chain professionals
- Drive alignment across Commercial, Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Finance
- Influence senior leaders and facilitate decision-making in a complex, matrixed organization
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Continuous Improvement & Strategic Initiatives
- Lead initiatives to improve forecast accuracy, planning effectiveness, and supply chain efficiency
- Support network optimization, regionalization, and long-term supply chain strategy development
- Drive adoption of best practices across planning, sourcing, and inventory management
- Manage cross-functional projects aligned with business priorities and transformation goals
Required Qualifications Of Every Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, Business, or related field and 10+ years of progressive experience in SIOP, supply chain, operations, or related disciplines
- Associates degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, Business, or related field and 12+ years of progressive experience in SIOP, supply chain, operations, or related disciplines
- 15+ years of progressive experience in SIOP, supply chain, operations, or related disciplines
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional initiatives
- Deep expertise in demand planning, supply planning, inventory management, and capacity planning
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset
- Experience with ERP systems (IFS, QAD, SAP or similar) and BI tools
- Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications: APICS CPIM, CSCP, or IBF certification
- Experience advancing SIOP/IBP maturity within a complex manufacturing environment
- Strong financial acumen, including understanding of P&L and working capital impacts
- Experience with advanced analytics, digital planning tools, or supply chain transformation initiatives
