About Morning Consult

Morning Consult is a global decision intelligence company changing how modern leaders make smarter, faster, better decisions. The company pairs its proprietary high-frequency data with applied artificial intelligence to better inform decisions on what people think and how they will act.

The Role

Morning Consult is seeking a Director, Global Economist to serve as a senior subject matter expert at the intersection of economics, geopolitics, and corporate strategy. This role is a rare combination: someone who can explain why wheat prices in the American Midwest are a function of Iranian foreign policy — and make a room full of C-suite executives lean forward.

What You'll Be Working On

  • Serve as Morning Consult's senior global economic subject matter expert in client and prospect conversations, bringing credibility and dynamism to engagements with global corporate clients.

  • Partner with commercial teams to advance strategic opportunities, support pitches, and strengthen long-term client relationships by connecting macroeconomic and geopolitical developments to clients' business outcomes.

  • Develop reproducible analytical frameworks for global and foreign market assessments, drawing on Morning Consult's proprietary high-frequency data and external sources.

  • Build and maintain AI-agent and GPT-layer outputs that scale economic and geopolitical analysis across client use cases.

  • Lead original economic and geopolitical research projects, with a particular focus on how political and economic dynamics — elections, trade policy, energy geopolitics, monetary regimes — translate into business risk and opportunity.

  • Collaborate with the Economics Team to ensure analytical quality, methodological rigor, and forward-looking relevance.

  • Drive survey data collection efforts that shed light on complex political and economic dynamics — trade flows, monetary policy, energy markets, supply chain disruption — and distill that data into clear, actionable narratives for senior executive audiences.

  • Develop and publish high-quality economic and geopolitical analysis— reports, briefings, data analyses, op-eds — that build Morning Consult's profile among global corporate and financial audiences.

  • Conceive and lead webinars, client events, and media engagements that demonstrate Morning Consult's differentiated perspective on the intersection of markets, policy, and geopolitics.

  • Contribute to inbound marketing strategy, with analysis designed to generate qualified leads and deepen engagement with existing clients.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, marketing, and strategy teams to ensure economic and geopolitical intelligence is integrated into Morning Consult's data products and client solutions.

  • Serve as an internal resource and thought partner for commercial teams navigating global economic questions in client engagements.

  • Contribute to team knowledge-sharing and mentorship within the economic intelligence function.

Who You Are

  • Master's in international political economy, economics, international relations, or a closely related field — SAIS (Johns Hopkins), SFS (Georgetown), or SIPA (Columbia) graduates particularly encouraged to apply.

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in a research, advisory, or analytical role with demonstrated exposure to global economic and geopolitical dynamics, including professional experience conducting time series analysis.

  • Proven ability to operate in client-facing or commercially oriented environments — you are as comfortable presenting to a boardroom as you are writing a research memo.

  • Experience in management consulting or a consulting-adjacent role is strongly preferred; the ability to structure ambiguous problems, communicate with senior stakeholders, and move between strategic and analytical work is a muscle we use constantly here.

  • Strong command of macroeconomics and the ability to connect political developments — trade policy, energy geopolitics, monetary regime shifts — to real-world business outcomes.

  • Track record of producing high-quality written analysis that is both intellectually rigorous and accessible to non-specialist audiences.

  • Comfort working with data, building reproducible analytical outputs, and contributing to AI-assisted research tools.

What Would Strengthen Your Application

  • Regional expertise across Europe or APAC, preferably with in-country work experience.

  • Prior experience at organizations such as the World Bank, IMF, International Finance Corporation, Economist Intelligence Unit, Federal Reserve, S&P Global, or IHS Markit.

  • Prior experience in the private sector a plus.

  • Experience developing content, hosting webinars, or building a public-facing analytical voice.

  • Familiarity with survey-based economic research or proprietary datasets.
