Job Summary

Works under minimal supervision to provide advanced administrative guidance and direction for Office of Accounting.

Essential Functions

  • Manage Financial Reporting and Accounting Operations divisions, including the development of work plans and annual performance evaluations for professional and clerical accounting staff.
  • Establish priorities of tasks and responsibilities to ensure accurate and timely completion.
  • Preparation of annual financial report in compliance with UT System and State Comptroller guidelines and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Monthly, quarterly and annual internal reports and other periodic reports filed with external agencies.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting on Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) liability.
  • Responsible for design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls, which provide reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and financial information is reliable.
  • Covers audits performed by independent firms. Designs and implements policy and procedure changes based on findings.
  • Coordinates accounting activity of 501(c)3 corporations affiliated with UT Southwestern.
  • Bank and general ledger reconciliations and monitoring of state appropriation expenditures.
  • Manage and control automated voucher postings from various accounting sub-systems.
  • Manage and control periodic accounting system closings.
  • Maintaining written policies and procedures for divisions.
  • Maintains accuracy and correctness of financial information through monitoring various accounting reports.
  • Reads and interprets current reporting requirements of various agencies, e.g., State Comptroller, UT System, FASB, GASB.
  • Recommend new or enhanced automated reporting processes and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience Required:
    • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
    • 7 years progressively responsible, related experience to include at least three (3) years in supervisory capacity.
  • Preferred:
    • Master's Degree.
    • CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT (CPA).

  • Ability to ensure adherence to all policies and procedures of university.
  • Ability to work with confidential information on a daily basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and exercise decision-making and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to read, write, develop plans, procedures, and coordinate persons and other resources to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Knowledge of personal computers.
  • Ability to lead committees as appropriate.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of internal and external personnel and organizations.
