About the role
The Director, Finance reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for the financial operations of Christian Herald Association (CHA) and its subsidiaries (d/b/a The Bowery Mission). The role ensures all expenses, fixed assets, capital expenditures, accounts payable, payroll, budgets, forecasts, departmental expense and P&L reporting, and program-level financial tracking are maintained and reconciled.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all payables and bi-weekly payroll; synchronize with Bill.com and the fixed asset ledger.
- Ensure timely reporting and proper systems for A/P, cash management, payroll, benefits, and tax expenses.
- Monitor departmental expense results and reclassifications.
- Analyze financial data and present accurate, timely reports; communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual results to senior leadership.
- Participate in the annual budgeting process and review/interpret financial and budget reports with the CFO and leadership.
- Collaborate with program leaders to educate staff on finance/accounting procedures and align finance with program operations.
- Establish systems and processes for gathering and monitoring financial data for annual audit, Form 990, 1099s, and 5500 filings.
Requirements
- Embrace the organization’s Statement of Faith.
- At least 5–10 years of senior experience, including supervisory roles with financial oversight responsibilities.
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting.
- Experience with non-profit accounting and donation processing.
- Highly experienced in payroll and exceptional computer skills (Microsoft Office).
Preferred
- Experience with BambooHR, Bill.com, Salesforce, ExpensePath, and Sage Intacct.
Pay
Salary range: $115,000 – $125,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
