About the Role

Provides strategic direction for preventative maintenance and repair services for facility equipment, including central plant operations, building management systems, and safety systems. Establishes long-term goals for repairs and troubleshooting, and reports to senior leadership on key metrics. Ensures facilities equipment passes safety checks and inspections in accordance with safety control programs such as infection control, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), chemical control, fire safety, Emergency Care Research Institute (ERCI) alerts, The Joint Commission (TJC) related programs, and all local regulatory requirements. Oversees budget and planning for outside resources to perform out-of-scope services.

  • Oversees operation of multiple units within a department by identifying member and operational needs; ensures work assignment completion.
  • Translates business strategy into actionable requirements; ensures products/services meet member expectations while aligning with organizational strategies.
  • Gains cross-functional support for business plans and priorities; assumes responsibility for decision-making; sets standards and measures progress.
  • Communicates goals and objectives; analyzes resources, costs, and forecasts; prioritizes and distributes resources.
  • Removes obstacles impacting performance; guides performance and develops contingency plans; ensures teams accomplish business objectives.
  • Directs all facilities maintenance (e.g., central plant operations, building management systems, safety systems) by providing strategic oversight for service requests and ensuring repair responses meet critical metrics.
  • Coordinates across organizational lines to align with organizational goals.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements for preventative maintenance by managing complex safety and maintenance initiatives.
  • Provides program-level oversight of teams performing preventative maintenance; leads strategic planning efforts with outside resources for complex maintenance.
  • Directs the use of resources in accordance with organizational goals and budget.
  • Employs new and updated facilities equipment by setting strategic direction for improvements aligned with industry standards and organizational goals.
  • Identifies process improvements and provides strategies/best practices for team use of operations and service manuals.
  • Establishes criteria for evaluating the need for new and updated equipment.
  • Drives a culture of safety by contributing to strategic safety goals aligned with core organizational initiatives and industry standards (e.g., TJC).
  • Ensures broad participation in safety control programs (e.g., infection control, Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), chemical control, fire safety, ERCI alerts, TJC-related programs).
  • Manages vendor relationships, including vendor assessment, performance, and compliance with current practices.
  • Assesses and proposes contracts for vendor engagements; identifies process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness of vendor assessment.
  • Drives the team to improve vendor maintenance/service efficiency and reduce reliance on vendors through education and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical disciplines in Plant Operations, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or related field AND minimum nine (9) years of experience in Engineering, Plant Operations, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or a directly related field.
  • OR Minimum twelve (12) years of experience in Engineering, Plant Operations, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or a directly related field.
  • Driver’s License (California) required at hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience managing operational or project budgets.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in a leadership role with direct reports.

Kaiser Permanente strives to offer a market-competitive total rewards package and is committed to pay equity and transparency.

Pay

$196,500 - $254,210 per year. Actual base pay determined at offer will be based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate’s years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.

Schedule

  • Location: Santa Clara, California (onsite)
  • Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Shift: Day shift, Monday through Friday
  • Working Hours: 08:00 AM - 05:00 PM
  • Travel: Up to 5% of the time
