About the role

The Director, External Manufacturing (EM) is responsible for base business supply of commercial products and provides leadership to a team of regional based site leaders doing the same. In doing so, the Director, EM ensures that products are available to meet both patient/customer and business needs, providing the highest quality at the lowest total cost of ownership and to achieve maximum relationship value through accelerated innovation, supplier integration, process improvement and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Leads the team and aligns with stakeholder organizations to drive both short and long-term objectives for the EM sites and overall region. Establishes and maintains key performance metrics and operational targets with the goal to improve supply reliability, process effectiveness and compliance.

  • PARTNERING: Partners strongly with procurement and on supplier strategy and contractual elements, with Planning/Network on optimizing supply/POs, with External Quality in view of compliance profile/audit readiness and MSAT on key tech transfers/line extension.

  • LEADERSHIP: Leads the implementation of new product launches and other product changes at EMs and to ensure timely product availability. Serves as Virtual General Manager with external partners and leads the Virtual Management team (VMT).

  • ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT: Leads and develops a high performing team and to ensure strong results through effective performance management and development planning. Coaches team members to influence business and patient outcomes via thorough understanding of the external and internal supply landscape.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a master’s degree is required, other advanced degree preferred. 10+ years of experience in the areas of both general manufacturing, operations and/or business management (business development, procurement, value chain management).

  • 3+ years of People Management experience, demonstrated cross-cultural people and team leadership. Demonstrated knowledge of functions including Quality, Technical Operations, Finance, Planning and Procurement. Understanding of end-to-end supply chain considerations and methods of driving continuous improvement. Demonstrated experience creating and working with negotiated agreements. Demonstrated experience in strategy development. Broad knowledge of pharmaceutical industry and specifically manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Preferred General Manager supply chain and site based operational experience. High level proficiency leading supplier relationships. High level of credibility with internal customers, and within the external manufacturing supply chain community. Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints; has ‘presence’. Proven track record in attracting and developing talent. Prior success in major change role as architect and/or leading implementation. Proven track record leading cross-functional teams, and building strong team culture. Demonstrated flexibility to respond to changes in the external and internal environments.
