About the role
The Cloud Observability group within Datadog’s core data retrieval and processing teams powers our foundational product, Infrastructure Monitoring. The group integrates with major hyperscalers (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI) and regional/GPU-specific cloud providers.
Responsibilities
- Own engineering for all of Cloud Observability
- Manage ~40 engineers through a layer of Engineering Managers
- Shape the roadmap alongside product leadership
- Navigate cross-team dependencies across various Datadog areas
- Build and retain engineering talent in NYC, Boston, and Paris
- Mentor Engineering Managers toward Director readiness
- Participate in the on-call rotation
Requirements
- You have directly managed Engineering Managers, not just individual contributors
- You have deep experience with one or more cloud providers, ideally with experience operating large-scale systems in the cloud
- You have a solid understanding of cloud economics and balancing performance and cost in cloud computing environments
- You integrate AI deeply into how you lead and how your teams build, treating AI-first thinking as core engineering practice
- You have a track record of shaping product decisions, not just executing against a spec
- You have worked with large-scale, event-driven or data-intensive backend systems — ingestion pipelines, high-throughput APIs, or time-series/event data at scale
- You are comfortable operating in English in a cross-Atlantic org, and are based in New York, Boston, or Paris
