About the role
We are seeking a Director, Enabling Tech Product Management (Upstream Marketing) who will be responsible for defining and executing the global strategy for enabling technologies across the orthopedic portfolio including augmented reality, navigation, robotics and data-driven surgical solutions. This role owns the “where to play” and “how to win” for enabling technologies—translating surgeon needs, market dynamics, and competitive intelligence into a differentiated, scalable product ecosystem that drives procedural adoption, capital efficiency, and long-term platform value.
Responsibilities
- Define and lead the global enabling technology strategy
- Establish clear portfolio priorities aligned to growth drivers
- Determine project prioritization for new product introductions
- Build long-range roadmaps that integrate hardware, software, and data into a unified ecosystem
- Coordinate product/strategy implementation by working with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Marketing Communications, Compliance, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Education, Sales Training, etc.
- Own end-to-end lifecycle from concept through launch, scale, and optimization
- Drive product requirements grounded in surgeon workflows, clinical outcomes, and economic value
- Serve as the global leader for enabling technology initiatives, ensuring alignment across R&D, clinical, regulatory, operations, and commercial teams
- Ensure global scalability across geographies, regulatory environments, and care settings
- Ensure launch readiness across all dimensions: product, training, supply chain, regulatory approval, and commercial deployment
- Translate strategy into clear commercial value propositions for surgeons, hospitals, and ASCs
- Drive global launch excellence, including segmentation, pricing strategy, and adoption plans
- Partner with sales leadership to accelerate utilization, penetration, and pull-through of implants
- Define and track KPIs: adoption rates, utilization, capital ROI, and procedural growth
- Develop deep understanding of competitive technologies landscape
- Monitor market trends
- Translate insights into actionable product and positioning strategies
- Support executive and investor narratives around enabling technology differentiation
- Lead alignment across R&D, marketing, clinical, regulatory, operations, and commercial teams
- Drive disciplined decision-making using data, financial modeling, and strategic frameworks
- Influence without authority across global stakeholders
- Build and manage business cases including revenue, NPV, and capital investment trade-offs
- Optimize capital efficiency and ROI for enabling technology platforms
- Partner with finance to align portfolio investments with long-term value creation
- Support M&A and partnership evaluations in enabling technology
- Develop strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) globally
- Translate surgeon needs into intuitive, workflow-integrated solutions
- Lead voice-of-customer initiatives to continuously refine product-market fit
- Ensure solutions enhance surgeon confidence, efficiency, and outcomes
- Travel, as reasonably requested, to meet with and educate customers and salespeople
- Attend and coordinate trade show presence, training programs and other related travel as needed or required.
Qualifications
- BA/BS Degree Business, Marketing, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 8+ years related experience in successful marketing roles in the medical device industry.
- 5+ years orthopedic enabling technology experience
- Proven experience launching and scaling complex capital equipment or technology platforms
- Strong understanding of orthopedic procedures, ideally adult reconstruction
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a global environment
- Experience with financial modeling (NPV, ROI, capital investment decisions)
