Amazon is seeking a Director, Employee Relations to lead employee relations and engagement efforts for the AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) organization. AIS delivers the global foundation for Amazon Web Services, ensuring reliable, secure, and sustainable cloud operations. The role focuses on the global data center organization, supporting hundreds of AIS data centers across 50+ countries and thousands of employees.

About the role

The vision of Amazon’s Global Corporate Employee Relations (GCER) team is to drive Amazon's efforts to become Earth's Best Employer by creating a thriving, empowering, and inclusive work environment. This position requires a leader with significant global employee and labor relations experience, deep subject matter knowledge, and strong communication skills. The role involves both proactive and reactive responsibilities, balancing strategic programs with crisis-oriented employee relations issues.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with AIS senior leaders and HR teams to create and sustain positive employee relations programs and best practices globally.
  • Manage a team that fosters an environment where employees feel respected, supported, and motivated to contribute.
  • Design and conduct trainings to upskill AIS leaders on positive employee relations.
  • Drive a culture of trust by proactively addressing workplace conflicts and enhancing employee support systems.
  • Design, collect, and analyze multiple levels of employee feedback.
  • Conduct and oversee employee relations and vulnerability assessment programs.
  • Engage in continuous improvement of communication channels and practices.
  • Drive regional and new market entry labor standards.
  • Influence beyond AIS data center operations and HR to shape communications, community engagement, and other strategies.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in team leadership or equivalent legal project/operating experience.
  • Experience leading and advising employee-facing professionals.
  • Experience managing team performance.
  • Broad knowledge of global labor and employment laws.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of professional experience, with a successful track record in leading employee relations within a large, global organization (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (required); J.D. (highly preferred).
  • Proven experience with large international entities focused on associate engagement.
  • Experience with labor strategies, including work councils and associate priorities.
  • Comfort with data-driven decisions and technology.
  • Ability to assess legislative and policy impacts on the employment environment.
  • Excellent customer orientation and ability to connect with a diverse, global workforce.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate and mitigate business risks.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating goals and strategies across leadership levels.
  • Proven ability to hire, develop, and lead strong teams.
  • Decisive, confident, and able to influence others in fast-changing, ambiguous situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Operator’s mindset aligned with solving real business problems.

Pay

Base salary range: $200,700 - $271,600 USD annually (Seattle, WA). Final compensation will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), determined by experience, qualifications, and location.
