Director, Emergency Department
About the role
The Director Emergency Department oversees the department to ensure it is performing effectively, which may include but not limited to, preparing and implementing business strategy to achieve the organization’s goals, ensuring legal compliance, communicating and collaborating with stakeholders, managing employment decisions and contributions of supporting team members, and managing departmental budget and fiscal success. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice while serving as a resource and mentor. Serves as leader in decision-making and problem-solving, incorporating data and information to continually improve operations while directing a multi-disciplinary team (i.e. hospital based Emergency Department, Clinical Decision Unit and Critical Care Services). Creates an environment that allows staff to develop professionally.
Responsibilities

- Safeguards patient satisfaction standards in relation to both inpatient and outpatient measures to ensure both quality of care and quality of service.
- Safeguards physician satisfaction with quality of care outcomes and nursing satisfaction.
- Serves as a resource and mentor, providing direction and guidance to others regarding practice.
- Serves as leader in decision-making and problem-solving, incorporating data and information to continually improve operations while directing a multi-disciplinary team (i.e. hospital based Emergency Department, Clinical Decision Unit and Critical Care Services).

Requirements
- Certification - Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support required for Pediatric units, Neonatal Resuscitation Program required for NICUs
- Licensure - Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse
- Experience - 5 years of clinical experience
Preferred Requirements
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), or related field
- Progressive leadership experience in emergency services within an acute care hospital, including multi-unit or high-volume ED oversight
- Advanced emergency nursing certification
