Director, EH&S (REQ876)
About the role
Spartech LLC, headquartered in Maryland Heights, Missouri, is a leading manufacturing organization in the Custom Sheet & Roll Stock and Packaging markets with over a dozen locations throughout the United States. We serve a broad customer base with extensive product offerings and technologies, producing materials used in everyday items like single-serve yogurt containers and refrigerator interiors, as well as specialized applications such as fighter jet canopies and bullet-resistant windows.
The Corporate Director of Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) will direct EHS affairs for the corporation and report to the CEO. This position is responsible for ongoing improvements to corporate-wide EH&S programs, enhancing workplace safety and health, minimizing environmental risk, and fostering a culture of EH&S excellence throughout the organization.
Responsibilities
- Direct the Corporate EHS and Worker's Compensation activities to assist Spartech divisions and facilities in implementing and maintaining an effective EHS management system.
- Direct the Spartech EHS Management System at facilities worldwide.
- Develop EHS initiatives and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and Spartech standards.
- Provide guidance and communication to senior management and plant leadership regarding EHS and Worker's Compensation status and initiatives.
- Manage the EHS budget.
- Analyze EHS program activities to determine applicability, successes, necessary improvements, and compliance.
- Prepare EHS reports and presentations for senior management regarding environmental program status and impact.
- Prepare and ensure accuracy of various governmental reports.
- Establish and maintain a Company health and safety management system reflecting established values and priorities.
- Set annual EHS targets and goals with input from corporate executives and business unit VPs.
- Establish and administer a corporate EHS recognition and incentive program to promote safety excellence.
- Develop metrics to report EHS performance to key stakeholders regularly.
- Maintain external communication programs for positive relations with public officials, community news media, and customers.
- Coordinate with regional EHS staff, operating divisions, and H&S coordinators to implement Company policies, procedures, and safety management programs.
- Provide consultation across all organizational levels for identifying improvement areas, maintaining compliance, and establishing target objectives.
- Audit the organization’s health and safety management systems for compliance and improvement opportunities; communicate audit results and follow up on corrective actions.
- Coordinate with executive staff and business unit leadership to maintain focus and visibility of the Company’s EHS program.
- Promote employee involvement at all levels of the organization.
- Regular attendance and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, safety sciences, or equivalent (Master’s degree a plus).
- Minimum ten years of experience in environmental, health, and safety in a production environment, preferably in a business similar to Spartech’s.
- Professional registration or certification in an EHS discipline (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) is preferred.
- Minimum two years of supervisory and project leadership experience.
