Accountabilities
- Owes the organization’s data strategy, architecture, and engineering execution.
- Designs, builds, and optimizes critical data pipelines connecting business systems, including CRM, billing, and internal platforms, with the company’s data warehouse.
- Defines and executes a long-term data architecture strategy while maintaining hands-on technical involvement in key initiatives.
- Establishes engineering standards for pipeline design, data modeling, data quality, governance, and reliability.
- Leads and grows a multidisciplinary Data organization spanning Data Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, and Analytics teams.
- Owns team structure, hiring strategy, headcount planning, and budget management for the data function.
- Partners with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to translate business objectives into scalable data platforms and investments.
- Evaluates existing integrations, automation processes, and technical systems to identify opportunities for improvement and modernization.
- Champions AI and automation initiatives by ensuring intelligent systems are built on reliable, accessible, and well-governed data foundations.
- Builds and delivers complex technical solutions while mentoring engineers and establishing a culture of engineering excellence.
- Guides technical decisions around data platforms, AI enablement, and machine learning capabilities.
- Communicates technical strategies, priorities, and tradeoffs effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- Experienced data engineering leader with strong technical depth, proven management experience, and the ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution.
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or related technical fields.
- 4+ years of experience managing engineering teams and developing technical talent.
- Experience building and leading multidisciplinary data organizations of 5+ people.
- Advanced SQL and Python skills with strong understanding of data modeling and master data management (MDM) principles.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake or similar cloud data platforms.
- Experience with dbt and data orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.
- Proven ability to define data strategies, architecture standards, and scalable engineering practices.
- Experience developing AI and LLM enablement strategies and integrating AI technologies into business workflows.
- Strong understanding of modern data platforms, analytics infrastructure, and automation practices.
- Able to operate at a Director level by managing budgets, prioritizing roadmaps, and influencing executive decisions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
- Experience with AI agents, LLM applications, retrieval systems, or AI orchestration is highly preferred.
- Backend engineering experience, particularly with JavaScript or TypeScript, is a plus.
- Knowledge of ML engineering, MLOps, data governance, PII management, Salesforce, Stripe, Gong, or reverse ETL tools is beneficial.
