About the role
The Director and Curator, NAGPRA Program ensures compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) through consultations, repatriations, and other activities. Directs the respectful care and curation of the NAGPRA collection, i.e. all items and human remains subject to NAGPRA.
Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with NAGPRA regulations
- Directs the respectful care and curation of the NAGPRA collection
- Conducts consultations with tribes regarding repatriation of NAGPRA items
- Manages the NAGPRA program in accordance with federal guidelines
Requirements
- Master's degree in Anthropology, History, Museum Studies, or related field
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in museum administration or related field
- Experience working with Native American communities and understanding of NAGPRA
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Qualifications
- Knowledge of NAGPRA and its implementation
- Experience with human remains and cultural items
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups
