About the role

The Director of Credit Risk & Analytics at CarMax Auto Finance (CAF) is responsible for setting originations strategy, evolving capabilities, owning P&L responsibilities, building and leading a world-class analytical team, and influencing executive decision-making with data-driven recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Setting originations strategy across credit policy, consumer pricing, fraud, and decisioning
  • Evolving originations capabilities to further expansion into full-spectrum lending
  • Owning P&L responsibilities by developing forecast models and steering the business
  • Building and leading a world-class analytical team
  • Influencing executive decision-making with data-grounded recommendations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, a related field, or equivalent experience; Master's degree preferred
  • 8–10 years of proven credit policy and/or credit risk management experience (or equivalent)
  • Strong conceptual thinking skills to design and manipulate complex mathematical models
  • Ability to convert vague business objectives into concrete analysis tasks and lead a team
  • Ability to inspire and lead analytical teams to effectively design and execute strategies

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (engineering, math, statistics, operations research, economics, physics, etc.)
  • Prior leadership experience in auto finance, consumer lending, and/or fintech
  • Hands-on familiarity with machine learning and alternative data in a lending context
  • Working proficiency in SQL, Python or R, and modern data / BI tooling (Snowflake, Tableau, etc.)

Skills

  • Genuine curiosity about how new data, new techniques, and new business models can change what's possible in auto lending
  • Player-coach mindset to build and develop talent
  • High bar on analytical rigor

Benefits

  • Annual salary range: $148,100.00 - $237,000.00
  • May be eligible for bonus and equity
  • Paid sick, vacation, and holiday time
  • Up to 48 hours of sick time per year
  • Between 80 hours and 200 hours of vacation time after a 90-day waiting period
  • 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday
  • Paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc., subject to manager approval

Work Location and Arrangement

This role will be based out of the CarMax Auto Finance office (Kennesaw, GA). Associates will work onsite 4 days per week.
