About the Role

The Director, Contract Development is a senior individual contributor within the Global Hospital & Biosimilars (GH&B) U.S. Commercial Contracting & Rebate Operations organization. This role leads the drafting, negotiation, and governance of contract language, templates, and terms supporting institutional customer segments, including Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs), hospitals, alternate sites of care, trade, and retail customers. The position partners closely with cross-functional teams to deliver compliant, market-responsive contract language that balances commercial objectives, customer value, and operational feasibility.

Responsibilities

  • Contract Development:
    • Partner with the Director, Contract Strategy to translate approved contracting strategies into executable, negotiated contract language for assigned institutional customers.
    • Lead the drafting, negotiation, and execution of high-value, highly complex agreements in support of GH&B U.S. Commercial strategies.
    • Serve as the senior contract language expert for the organization’s most complex, highest-value customer relationships.
    • Lead the development, governance, and maintenance of contract templates, standard clauses, and agreement language, ensuring consistency and compliance across customer segments.
    • Drive innovation in contract language and constructs to create competitive advantage while managing legal and business risk.
    • Lead critical initiatives, including new template development and risk assessment, for new customer segments and contracting channels.
  • Data, Analytics & Risk Assessment:
    • Lead the early-risk identification framework, converting cross-functional input into executive-level risk recommendations.
    • Evaluate contract language and terms for legal, financial, and operational risks across contracting scenarios, recommending risk tolerance and mitigation approaches.
    • Develop analytical tools and frameworks to strengthen contract risk assessment and drafting decisions.
    • Assess the impact of evolving healthcare laws and regulations on contract terms, recommending enterprise-wide updates.
  • Strategic Thinking & Business Partnership:
    • Translate product, pricing, and customer strategy into executable contract language, partnering with Portfolio, Pricing & Commercial Operations (PCO), and Account Management.
    • Advise and influence GH&B U.S. Commercial Leadership, Account Management, and other stakeholders on contractual positions and business implications.
    • Evaluate and adopt innovative Contract Development platforms, tools, and AI capabilities.
    • Serve as the senior technical expert and mentor for Contract Development colleagues, elevating drafting capability and consistency.
  • Cross-Functional & Customer Engagement:
    • Lead the Contract Development process end-to-end across Contract Strategy, Contract Management, and Rebate Operations.
    • Drive contract-language strategy and risk positioning within complex institutional negotiations.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with Account Management, Legal, Compliance, and key external customers.
  • Governance, Compliance & Process Support:
    • Ensure all contract language, templates, and agreements comply with legal, regulatory, and company policy requirements.
    • Partner with the Director, Contract Strategy to ensure strategic intent is reflected in contract language.
    • Coordinate with Contract Management and Rebate Operations to ensure operational feasibility.
    • Lead process reimaginations to drive continuous improvement in drafting standards and governance practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of experience; OR a master’s degree with at least 7 years of experience; OR a PhD with 5+ years of experience.
    • Experience in pharmaceutical, institutional contracting, contract development/agreement drafting, or market access.
    • Experience working with GPOs, IDNs, hospitals, alternate sites of care, trade, and retail customers.
    • Expert-level knowledge of contract drafting, agreement language, and industry-standard contracting terms.
    • Experience leading complex negotiations for high-value, strategically significant accounts.
    • Demonstrated track record of leading governance frameworks, cross-functional initiatives, and influencing senior stakeholders.
    • Strengths in risk assessment, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Preferred Requirements:
    • Paralegal degree or certification (preferred but not required).
    • Experience with biosimilars, generics, or injectables in hospital/institutional settings.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Ability to perform complex data analysis and risk assessment using large, complex datasets.
  • Ability to synthesize legal, financial, and operational risk considerations across multiple concurrent, highly complex contract negotiations, often under time-sensitive conditions.

Schedule

  • Periodic travel to support in-person customer negotiations, cross-functional meetings, or industry conferences.
  • Work Location Assignment: Hybrid

Pay

  • Annual base salary range: $162,900.00 to $271,500.00 (U.S. locations except Tampa, FL).
  • Annual base salary range for Tampa, FL: $146,600.00 to $244,400.00.
  • Eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary.
  • Eligible to participate in Pfizer’s share-based long-term incentive program.
  • Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs and/or eligibility.
