Director, Construction Estimating

Responsibilities

  • Lead the estimating organization across multiple regions, creating consistent methods, controls, and expectations that improve bid quality and operational alignment.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of large, complex estimates for construction and infrastructure opportunities, ensuring pricing reflects scope, client needs, and financial objectives.
  • Partner with senior leaders to shape pursuit strategy, including bid selection, pricing direction, risk evaluation, and go/no-go recommendations.
  • Work closely with project management, operations, finance, and executive stakeholders to test assumptions, identify exposure areas, and strengthen cost models.
  • Establish performance measures and reporting practices that improve forecasting accuracy, accountability, and efficiency within the estimating team.
  • Develop relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners to expand market insight and secure competitive pricing support.
  • Use historical cost data, market conditions, and industry trends to improve estimate reliability and support informed business decisions.
  • Drive process enhancements, technology adoption, and scalable best practices that increase productivity across the estimating function.
  • Coach and develop estimating managers and team members, fostering a culture centered on accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in construction estimating, including leadership responsibility for large-scale bids and proposals.
  • Strong background in the construction industry with the ability to evaluate scope, pricing strategy, and commercial risk.
  • Proven success leading estimating teams across multiple locations or business units.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with executives, project managers, finance leaders, and operational teams.
  • Demonstrated skill in building bid strategies that balance competitiveness, profitability, and risk tolerance.
  • Experience using cost history, market data, and industry intelligence to support accurate forecasting and decision-making.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor teams and influence senior stakeholders.
