About the role
The Director, Community & Belonging plays a pivotal role in strengthening connection, inclusion, and belonging across Deckers' global employee community. This role involves leading the design and delivery of programs, workshops, and moments that bring people together, fostering trust and engagement across regions, teams, and cultures. You will work closely with People Experience partners, ERG leaders, and business stakeholders to translate company priorities into meaningful, people-centered experiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, deliver, and expand global Community & Belonging (C&B) strategy, programming, and initiatives aligned with corporate purpose and values
- Influence, mentor, and coach ERG leads responsible for day-to-day implementation of C&B initiatives
- Oversee budget related to C&B initiatives
- Partner with leaders and employees to embed C&B mindset into leadership practices, team norms, and ways of working, including ERGs, mentorship initiatives, and organizational efforts
- Identify learning opportunities and design, deliver, and oversee experiences that build C&B competence, psychological safety, and inclusive leadership
- Serve as senior advocate and practitioner to leaders, addressing concerns related to bias or inequity and supporting restorative resolution
- Ensure all C&B concerns raised by employees are promptly escalated to People & Experience (PX) for follow-up and resolution
- Partner with PX team to ensure policies, programs, and leadership practices reflect inclusive thinking
- Collaborate with Corporate Communication team to shape and execute communication strategies that authentically represent C&B employee experiences
- Stay abreast of best practices, external partnership opportunities, technology, and tools to inform belonging initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in organizational development, human resources, social work, sociology, or related fields (master’s preferred)
- 10+ years of experience leading belonging and inclusion initiatives in a global organization
- Demonstrated experience creating a vision, translating it into executable strategy, and leading cross-functional teams to deliver in alignment with articulated strategy
- Experience in creating and delivering strategic recommendations to leaders based on data-driven conclusions
- Proven track record for progressing enterprise people initiatives
- Established experience in assisting and growing ERGs and employee engagement
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including press releases, internal/external communications, and presentations
- People-centered leader who believes in the power of connection, inclusion, and community
- Skilled at building strong partnerships and collaborating across a global, matrixed organization
- Empathetic, inclusive leader who can coach, guide, and inspire others
- Action-oriented and collaborative, able to move ideas into practice and bring leaders and teams along through clear communication, trust, and shared ownership
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in organizational development, human resources, social work, sociology, or related fields (preferred)
