Job Summary
The Chief Software Architect at Chamberlain Group is responsible for defining, evolving, and governing the end-to-end architecture of the myQ IoT platform. This role requires enterprise-level technical leadership across cloud and middleware platforms, IoT connectivity and services, video systems, and interactions with firmware & hardware.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain an Architectural Roadmap that supports all Software Engineering Roadmaps and Product Roadmaps
- Work with Architects to specify and implement architectural guidelines and standards for myQ Product and Application development
- Set standards and best practices to create reusable code, components, Data and Platform capabilities
- Lead technical discussions in community of practice, design review, or other technical meeting forums
- Communicate broadly, coach and teach Engineering Management, including roadmap reviews with Executive stakeholders to align with company strategy
- Can take the form of Proof-of-Concept development, technical assessments, or embedding with Product or Platform Engineering teams for periods of time
- Collaborate with other Chamberlain domain experts, such as infrastructure, data, and analytics, as the team develops features and platform enhancements
- Analyze requirements, collaborate with architects and senior engineers to produce thoughtful software designs of large scope and high complexity
- Mentor and coach engineers and architects to increase the software capability of the development teams
- Stay current on modern technologies and innovations, which can further enhance and improve the commercial success of the MyQ connectivity solution
Requirements
- 12-15+ years of progressive experience in software, systems, or platform architecture, with significant ownership of large-scale, distributed systems
- Proven experience architecting and scaling IoT platforms supporting millions of connected devices, including device onboarding, identity, messaging, telemetry, and command/control
- Hands-on experience designing and evolving end-to-end systems spanning cloud services, embedded firmware, hardware capabilities, mobile/web applications, and third-party integrations
- Deep understanding of consumer security, localized data privacy concerns, and compliance principles across cloud, IoT devices, APIs, and customer-facing systems
- Track record of leading platform modernization initiatives, introducing modern technologies and architectural patterns while managing technical debt
- Experience in influencing and guiding multiple engineering teams and senior leaders through architectural decisions in complex, matrixed organizations
- Strong ability to translate business and product strategy into clear technical direction, architectural standards, and system design trade-offs
- Experience partnering with Product Management, Operations, Quality, and Customer-facing teams to deliver reliable, customer-centric platforms
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Electronics)
Benefits
The pay range for this position is $215,824.00 - $352,938.00; base pay offered may vary depending on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. In addition to base pay, also offered is a comprehensive benefits package and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
