About the role

The Director, Business & Function Finance plays a critical role in supporting BNY's Infrastructure and Cyber platforms. Reporting to senior engineering leaders, this role focuses on workforce planning, vendor management, and executive reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior engineering leaders to translate strategic priorities into actionable workforce plans
  • Identify, assess, and manage financial risks and opportunities across the organization
  • Support workforce planning and resource optimization, including headcount forecasting and requisition pipeline management
  • Work closely with the CFO to correlate financial impacts and variances with workforce trends
  • Deliver reporting and insights to support data-driven decision-making around organizational health, capacity, and talent demand
  • Oversee vendor-related planning and governance across external labor, software, and purchased services
  • Develop and maintain high-quality executive reporting materials for leadership reviews
  • Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, controls, and overall quality of business management support
  • Contribute to ongoing transformation efforts and help evolve the operating model to support long-term business performance

Requirements

The ideal candidate should bring strong business management discipline, financial acumen, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex, global environment. They must have significant experience in business management, finance, chief of staff, operations, or a related function within a complex organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Significant experience in business management, finance, chief of staff, operations, or a related function within a complex organization
  • Experience supporting senior leaders and operating in a highly matrixed, global environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight timelines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn data into actionable insights
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level presentation and reporting capabilities
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships across finance, engineering, HR, sourcing, and other support functions

Skills

The successful candidate will possess a range of skills, including:

  • Experience supporting engineering, technology, or infrastructure organizations
  • Familiarity with workforce planning and organizational resource management
  • Experience with vendor governance, procurement processes, and external spend management
  • Exposure to large-scale operating model or organizational transformation initiatives
  • A strong continuous improvement mindset with the ability to streamline processes and enhance controls
