About the Role

This position works within the Community Impact (Grants) Department to create and implement innovative programs that strengthen the nonprofit sector in Broward. The Director leads the Broward Center for Nonprofit Excellence (Nonprofit Center) as a comprehensive resource for information, tools, support, research, and services for Broward County’s nonprofit sector. Responsibilities include providing educational programs, consultation, coaching, technical assistance, web-based/technology resources, publications, and reports to enhance the capacity of Broward nonprofit organizations.

The Director will maintain current knowledge of local and national issues affecting nonprofit organizations and the community to ensure resources are appropriate, relevant, effective, and timely. The role also involves representing the Foundation as a thought-leader on nonprofit capacity building, organizational development, and philanthropy, positioning the Center as the leading authority.

Responsibilities

  • Set the overall vision, direction, strategy, and priorities for the development and implementation of programs/services to achieve the Foundation’s and the Nonprofit Center’s goals in consultation with the Vice President and an advisory committee.
  • Guide the Center's evolution to broaden its philanthropic footprint by engaging multiple audiences, including nonprofits, grantees, agency partners, donors, funders, volunteer leaders, and others to inform, educate, and demonstrate the Foundation’s value.
  • Proactively identify the needs of these audiences and develop innovative strategies and resources to enhance their personal development, leadership, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise program consultants; create, select, arrange, host, and occasionally deliver/facilitate educational programs to meet identified needs.
  • Foster a sense of community among nonprofits by helping them forge relationships with each other to impact community issues and encourage collaborations.
  • Maintain and develop new partnerships to support the Center’s work and expand its reach into various geographic areas in Broward.
  • Generate revenue for the Center through its programs and services to support sustainability.
  • Provide content, facilitation, speakers, and organizational support to Community Impact Directors as requested for grantee groups, such as Power Builders.
  • Evaluate (formally and informally) the effectiveness of programs/services; establish outcomes and benchmarks to enhance or create new programs and/or modify services.
  • Communicate updates, progress reports, and stories; ensure appropriate recognition of supporters in program-related collateral, newsletters, annual reports, and the website in coordination with the marketing department.
  • Produce content for the Center’s annual report, marketing documents, fundraising documents, and community presentations.
  • Grow interest, excitement, and inspire investments in the Nonprofit Center by providing consistent communication to demonstrate its impact on the nonprofits it serves and the broader community.
  • Oversee effective, accurate, and efficient grants management and data for the assigned portfolio and manage related activities.
  • Develop and implement an annual work plan and prepare and monitor the annual program budget. Manage additional requests outside of the plan based on capacity.
  • Advance the Foundation’s organizational goals and handle special assignments as directed by the Vice President of Community Impact.
  • Manage the Coordinator of Community Impact and additional full-time, part-time, and/or contract staff as the Center grows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of high-level related work experience with a concentration on organizational leadership/management, training/human resource development, talent development/management, continuing education, program, or business development.
  • Ability to create and implement strategies that lead to improved organizational effectiveness and/or community impact; ability to build solid, trusted relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and institutionalizing new program models or business strategies that have resulted in measurable ROI or organizational improvement.
  • Experience in marketing or sales that resulted in measurable results, such as new or expanded customers/clients/stakeholders, increased sales/revenue, or other tangible outcomes.
  • Understanding of adult learning and ability to engage audiences in the learning process; knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, and implementation.
  • Knowledge of fundraising, board development, and leadership and management competencies for nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience working in a complex organization with colleagues across multiple departments and with a variety of community stakeholders.
  • Experience working with volunteers and managing committees.

Reports to: Vice President of Community Impact. Supervises: Community Impact Coordinator.
