Director, Benefits
About the role
The Director, Benefits leads the Employee Benefits function for Tandem Diabetes Care. This role collaborates with HR and Finance Leadership on the company benefits strategy and budget, as well as with the HR leadership team to drive processes and efficiencies in the function. This role works closely with and influences peers across the broader organization when it comes to the adoption and implementation of benefits initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the subject matter expert on benefits, ensuring offerings are competitive, compliant, and aligned with employee needs and organizational objectives.
- Collaborates with HR and Finance Leadership on the company benefits strategy and budget.
- Works closely with and influences peers across the broader organization when it comes to the adoption and implementation of benefits initiatives.
- Ensures company compliance with federal, state, and global laws governing benefits practices.
- Facilitates achievement of the goals of the department and business.
- Provides strategic leadership in the design, development, implementation, administration, and communication of the Company’s benefits, wellness, and Leave programs.
- Evaluates, selects, and manages relationships with vendors, brokers, and carriers, including monitoring service levels, costs, utilization, and other metrics to ensure positive employee experience and value to the organization.
- Promotes and educates employees about benefit, paid time off, financial savings, and Leave programs.
- Ensures team manages compliance requirements including, but not limited to, ERISA, FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, Form 5500 filings, nondiscrimination testing, and audits utilizing established vendors.
- Reviews, updates, and implements organizational policies to ensure compliance with US and global regulations.
- Partners closely with the HR Business Partner team on complex or escalated leave situations.
- Partners with internal SOX and IT teams to ensure SOX compliance within remit.
- Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience.
- PHR, SPHR or other HR-related certifications strongly preferred.
- 12 years’ progressive experience developing, implementing, and measuring Employee Benefit programs globally that support company business objectives.
- 5 years’ leading teams of Employee Benefits.
- Strong knowledge of Self-funded Insurance Plans, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, ADA Workers Compensation, Unemployment, Disability, financial savings, and paid time off programs and related state and federal regulations with multi-state and global employer experience.
- Strong knowledge of HRIS systems and MS Office applications.
- Exceptional business acumen with experience presenting and influencing senior business leaders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strategic thinking and planning/facilitation ability and flexibility to function in a fast paced and innovative environment.
- Ability to dive into details, translate and statistically analyze data, and effectively report results through written and/or graphical formats.
- Ability to diagnose problems and identify and implement appropriate solutions.
- Ability to facilitate large or small group meetings and manage conflict resolution.
- A positive approach to people and problem solutions along with a strong sense of discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively and able to lead cross-functional project teams.
- Excellent project management skills.
Qualifications
- Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered for employment in accordance with applicable state and local Fair Chance laws and regulations.

Benefits
- Starting base pay range: $175,000 - $205,000 annually.

Pay
The starting base pay range for this position is $175,000 - $205,000 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market.
Schedule
This role will be a mix of in-office work at our corporate headquarters in San Diego, CA and remote work. This position is expected to be in office 1-2 days per week but may vary depending on business demands.
