Director, Assistant General Counsel - US Commercial Contract & Product (Discover Network)

About the role

The attorney will provide support for the Discover Network on the US Commercial and Product legal team with a focus on merchant relationships. The ideal candidate should have expertise in commercial contracting.

Responsibilities

• Providing expert counsel and strategic guidance across a critical spectrum of areas impacting commercial relationships, including commercial contracting and risk identification and mitigation
• Negotiating, drafting, and guiding implementation of commercial agreements, working in close collaboration with legal and business colleagues and other subject matter experts
• Serving as a key strategic partner and important voice within the business
• Supporting credit, fintech and payment innovation related new product initiatives and innovation across the Discover Network
• Supporting the development and maintenance of competitive rule sets for the Discover Network
• Identifying and supporting process improvements to promote agility in legal and related business operations, including contract template improvements
• Partnering collaboratively with other internal counsel and business teams across the enterprise
• Partnership with Risk and Compliance teams to ensure comprehensive support
