Director and Associate General Counsel, Compliance
Job Summary
Scale seeks a business-minded Director and Associate General Counsel, Compliance to lead Scale’s corporate compliance program. This role will advise on anti-bribery and anti-corruption, conflicts of interest, gifts and entertainment, third-party risk, and other sensitive corporate compliance matters. It will also lead or support privileged compliance investigations, remediation, and escalations, coordinate across Legal and with outside counsel, develop practical compliance policies, workflows, training, and reporting processes, mature Scale’s Enterprise Risk Management process, represent Scale’s corporate compliance function with internal and external stakeholders, and more.
Responsibilities
- Advise on anti-bribery and anti-corruption, conflicts of interest, gifts and entertainment, third-party risk, and other sensitive corporate compliance matters.
- Lead or support privileged compliance investigations, remediation, and escalations, coordinating across Legal and with outside counsel where matters involve potential litigation or enforcement risk.
- Develop practical compliance policies, workflows, training, and reporting processes that support Scale’s growth and IPO-readiness.
- Mature Scale’s Enterprise Risk Management process, including risk assessment methodology, risk register governance, mitigation tracking, and leadership reporting.
- Set legal standards for compliance operations, including hotline triage, sensitive matter review, policy governance, training requirements, and remediation escalation.
- Partner across Legal, GRC, Security, Product, Engineering, Finance, People, Public Sector, and other business teams on compliance and IPO-readiness.
- Represent Scale’s corporate compliance function with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, auditors, partners, and regulators.
Requirements
- JD and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 10+ years of legal experience across corporate compliance, investigations, regulatory counseling, GRC, internal controls, or related areas.
- Experience building or scaling compliance programs in high-growth technology or similarly complex environments.
- Strong experience with anti-bribery and anti-corruption, conflicts of interest, third-party risk, hotline governance, and privileged investigations.
- Experience maturing ERM, policy governance, training, remediation tracking, risk reporting, and IPO-readiness or public-company compliance.
- Strong judgment and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across legal, technical, operational, and executive stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Nice to haves: Experience with AI governance or regulation, familiarity with government contractor compliance, export controls, or industrial security, experience with multinational compliance programs, including Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America.

Pay
The base salary range for this full-time position in the locations of San Francisco, New York, Seattle is: $302,400—$378,000 USD.
