Job Description

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for providing direct support, hands-on instruction, assistance, and positive direction to youth ages 12-21 with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) in a manner that ensures their health, safety, successful achievement of service objectives, and personal goals.

Enrich and support the lives of our residents while maintaining a safe and healthy environment.

  • Provide companionship and personalized care while encouraging independence and self-care.
  • Aid with activities of daily living, including dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, and eating.
  • Prepare meals and snacks.
  • Perform light housekeeping and laundry duties.
  • Provide mobility and transfer assistance, which may include using mechanical lift devices.
  • Implement positive behavior supports and de-escalate challenging behaviors when needed.

Qualifications

  • 6 months of professional work experience supporting vulnerable populations required (ex. caregiver, nanny, paraeducator, direct support professional, etc.).
  • 6 months of volunteer experience may be used in lieu of professional work experience.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older per Washington state licensing requirements.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Good communication skills are essential. You will rely on your reading, writing, and communication skills to document care, follow support plans, and collaborate with both internal and external team members.
